Sheesh! A call from the ER

I haven't seen or heard a peep from my A-bf (or his family) for "one-day-short-of-8-weeks."  I just got home from a birthday lunch for my Mom... went with a couple of my sisters & a niece.  Had a lot of FUN!

Had a call on the answering machine waiting for me for when I got home.  It was from an Emergency Room; a health care worker asking for "a friend or family member" to come pick up the A-bf.  Now what?  Well, at least I know that if they need a "pick-up" that A-bf is:

a) still alive
b) healthy enough to be discharged

I work night shift and was heading to bed as soon as I got home from the birthday celebration.  I have to get my rest or I won't be able to stay awake tonight.  I certainly hope someone else (family?) steps up to the plate and goes to fetch him.  Else, he can always take a cab.

I always jumped for the A. That changed but it took a good 3 years or more in the room for that to happen. Now its me and my dogs first and everything esle second.  I am so happy to learn self preservation. I had none before now.

Thank you so much for your responses, guys... it really means a lot to me.  I did have a bit of trouble sleeping, and felt a little mad, too, because he is at it again.  But I am so happy that I didn't go running to rescue him.  The old me would have.

good job. My a called from jail last week and said he only needed $70 to get out so he could make it to yet another court date the next day. I said gee that sux.

It sure feels good to get to that place where you don't feel guilty for not "helping" anymore!
