he said he would be home.....he is not

he has been gone for days.

i got a call from him yesterday,

he said he would be home today.......he is not.

i decided to go to a face to face meeting tonight.

it was nice.

but,

something really peculiar happened just as i was getting ready to leave.

he called.

i went outside to start my vehicle.

when i came back in,

i saw that he had called.

five minutes before i was to leave for a meeting he didn't know i was going to; he calls?

that is sooooooooooooooo strange.

i called him back, no answer,

tried his other phone, no answer,

i was going to try again, [you know just in case he had slipped into a store and missed my first two calls]

and,

then i thought no........,

you are just walking out the door.

if he answers you will not get to the meeting on time. [it is a forty mile drive on snowy highways]

i put the phone gently back on it's cradle and i left.

i just cannot get over the fact that he did not call until i was ready to walk out the door.

it's as if this disease has a life of it's own.

as if the disease somehow told him i was leaving for an alanon meeting,

and,

to call me ,

and,

sabatoge my efforts to get there.

if i did not have the belief of a higher power to restore me to sanity.

this little incident would have knocked me for a mental loop.

cunning, baffling, suttle.

i was told the aloholic will go to any lengths to recover,

well,

so will this alanon member.

after tonight.......,

i won't hesitate to drive forty miles to a meeting ,

there is a force out there greater than me,

alcoholism.

and,

there is a force out there greater than alcoholism.

my higher power.

geeeesh,

what a weird night.

blessings,

jewely

You didn't LET it sabotage your meeting, good for you. It only has the power over us that we give it.

Sometimes hp which I call God gives us a little whisper, try and keep your mind open to those whispers as you did last night going to your meeting..

My prayers are with you in your time of strugle....the disease does have a life of it's own and it destroys all in it's path...we have to take control and take our lives back...

Best of Luck,
Andrea

Hey, jewely! I'm feelin' for ya'! A lot of know all about the " he didn't come how" thing! I sure do. Look at what just what happened to me - I didn't get his usual phone calls but if he was living in our home, all I needed to know he was drinking again was his not being home for dinner. And back in the old days, I had just gone in the door to a damily counseling session at the re-hab he'd just gotten out of. I no sooner got there when they said he called about something important. I called him back (worried) and he said our little boy had fallen and cut his lip. "Are you coming home or not?!!!", he said. Now, this was something he could've taken care of himself (he was not drinking at the time) but I felt I'd better go home anyway. Then I realized he was trying to stop me from going to the meeting and it worked!. And he had just gotten out of re-hab! I think they do that because if you get well yourself, it will make it harder for them to blame you and they will have to start looking at themselves more. Good for you for not letting his ploy stop you! And hang in there, hon. After this recent relapse of om A's, I been clinging to this site! It has been a life saver!

thanks people,

well, here it is another day.

my daughter says he called her,

and,

he should be home today.

i laughed,

and,

said,

''yeh, yeh, that is exactly the same story he told me yesterday.''

did you read that......''i laughed''.

anyway,

while she was telling me what he told her,

i felt a part of me actually start to hope he'll be home, things will be fine,

that same old, same old pattern of hope in him.

i felt like i had to physically pull myself back to the reality of the moment......,

he is not home,

time will tell,

and,

the hope is in my higher power ,

not him,

boy,

old habits die hard.

i was thinking last night,

it is like i am trying to quit smoking or something.

changing old patterns of behavior,

it 's scarey somtimes.......,

the thought that i might be addicted to him!!!

time to go.

another day with baby girl Kendra.

what a kid.

blessings,

jewly

the A has been claiming lately that he just wants to up and leave.  That threat used to fill me full of such fear. How would I?  I also felt full of fear he would take the truck and that would be the end of it.  I no longer exist in such fear.  I know it is al anon working for me.  I don't hold out that much on the A's recovery but I hold out a great deal on my own.
