My "Favorite Man" Relapses

OK, those of you who know me know I am "madly in love" with country music star, Keith Urban.  LOL

He married Nichole Kidman 4 months ago.  He just admitted himself (or she admitted him) to rehab again.  He's been thru this before.  She had him sign a pre-nup about his drug and alcohol abuse situation.  If he uses, and she wants out of the marriage, she owes him nothing.  She gets out scott-free.  Sounds like a smart move to me.....wish I'd thought of that.

It just got me thinking. ... Here is this guy, who has millions and millions of women screaming his name, he is doing a job (music) that he obviously loves to do.  He has tons of money.  He is married to an actress with tons of money.  He can go anywhere, do anything he wants.  He is talented, sensitive, good looking (well, I think he is), and his wife of 4 months made him sign a pre-nup regarding staying sober.  Still the disease caught up with him again.

AND HE DIDN'T.  HE STILL HAD A RELAPSE!  Sometimes I look at other people, and think, well, they are different than my A and I are.  We have problems because we don't have a lot of money, we have jobs we hate, we are basically stuck in the hamster cage, going to work, coming home, going to work, pay the bills.  Get up everyday and do it all again.

But addiction is such a strange creature.  It robs people of their lifes, their livelihoods, their ambition.  Keith Urban couldn't even stay straight for his beautiful, skinny, loving wife.  Hmmm  My husband sometimes says he drinks because I'm fat.  LOL

Well, I'm hoping Keith Urban gets along well in rehab, and is able to go back to touring when he gets out.  My husband is going to have to take me to a concert! Well, maybe I should just go with some friends.  My husband wouldn't appreciate me throwing my undergarments at the stage.  LOL.  (just kidding)

Just some random thoughts I wanted to get out today.  Thanks for reading!

Love in Recovery,

Becky1

(((((((Becky))))))),

You crack me up girlfriend! But you've made some valid points at the same time.  It goes back to Step 1 all over again.  We are all powerless over alcohol.  This disease know no boundaries, doesn't descriminate, etc.  That's why they call this disease cunning, baffling and powerful.

Love and blessings to you and your family.  Kiss the kitties.

Live strong,

Karilynn & Pipers Kitty

You are right, it invades every type of person's life no matter what they have going for them.

My son is a very talented guitarist. Both acoustic and electric, Well, ya know you can't say much to 16 yr olds that they don't know already..lol

So I take the opportunity when he is playing a song by someone like Jimmi Hendrix to say. Man, it's so sad he is gone, he's a legend now, can you imagine what he could have given if he was still here? He inhaled his own vomit. What a way to go!

Luckily, he likes 70's-80's music so I can relate and throw in Janis Joplin, John Bonham and Steve Clark (Led Zeppelin), John Panozzo-Styx, Scott Bon-AC/DC, Jim Morrison..gosh..unfortunately the list goes on and on. Either drug overdose or alcoholism, all of them.

I can only hope my son thinks of these dead rockers and how utterly unecessary it was to die.

Just goes to show you money and prestige doesn't mean crap when drugs and alcohol are there to destroy. It's a worldwide multicultutal levelor.

I am not surprised...

Most people who struggle with addiction struggle with it all of their lives sadly.  Relapse seems to be part of the package.

I once read that being married to a celebrity is not all that it is cracked up to be, that is why many of their marriages end up in divorce.  Most of the really big ones are used to having an entourage of flunkies catering to their every whim, and they can expect their mates to also.  They also like to be surrounded with "yes people" who agree with them and think they are the greatest thing to ever walk the earth, so, if a spouse expressed a fair complaint, they sometimes cannot take it.

Keith was a star in his own right in his world of country, but his prestige, star power, money, and position paled in comparison with his new wifes, maybe now that they are married that is a little harder to take for a man.  Keith seems to be sort of a "traditional guy" who would have a hard time taking a back seat to his wife.  He would have to at least be equal.

Just because he is married does not mean he is happy.  Nicole was smart to make a prenup about his addiction.

I feel sort of sorry for her, first she married a totally drug and addiction free nut, now she married a nice "normal" addict...she just can't get it right somehow.  And yes she is pretty, thin, smart, and rich, so she has a pretty good chance of getting it right somehow, yet she keeps making poor choices.

I really don't know much about country music, but I do like many country songs.  I like Lonestar a lot, a friend let me borrow a CD and I have loved them ever since.  I too think Keith is really something special. Ever since I saw his one video on CMT while flipping one day "You'll think of me", LOL.

But I think Toby Keith is a little hotter, LOL...the first time I saw him I thought..."Now THAT is a MAN!".  LOL!

Loved your post!  I am always so excited when I hear about a "star" going into treatment or doing well in sobriety.  Then I get upset/sad when I hear how one slipped again.   I really like Keith Urban too!

I hope he can stick with it again!  You are right sometimes I think if the people who have what seems to be "everything" can't stay sober who will be able to.  Thankfully our HP is there to see over them if anyone rich or poor will just let Him have control.

Thanks for sharing!!!!!

I don't listen to much country music - isn't Keith Urban the one that sings one of our slogans?  "But for the Grace of God"

Anyway, I saw a quote in the paper where he said " One can never let one's guard down on recovery, and I'm afraid that I have"

I can understand that fear - Last year at our state convention one of the speakers said the disease of alcoholism is always calling us back - all of us - the A's and the Al-Anon's - It will always be right there waiting for us to come back if we lose the focus of recovery.

Hope that all of us can stay focus on recovery and also enjoy life,

Rita
