Housewarming Party without a House

Ever hear of a housewarming party without a House -

Well that's what I'm doing!!! - I am living the "Fake it til ya make it" in every bit of my life.

As some you may know it has been a tough few months for us, with our daughter Ashley, I have had some health problems and having trouble diagnosing the exact problem.  I was scheduled to see a new Dr. on 11/7, but he was killed in a plane crash this past weekend. Please keep his family in your prayers - (HP knows his name), and of course there is always the lovely home issue.

Not to start with the pour me story, but our home was damaged from Hurricane Rita - We have been working with SBA since January on our new home.  Our new manufactured home has been on the mobile home lot since the end of July waiting to be delivered - waiting on closing the loan, waiting on paper work, waiting on contractors, waiting on weather, waiting on waiting, get the picture -

While we have been waiting we have been without a stove, we have had to replace a hot water heater, the a/c went out, are using 2 window units with blankets hung from the ceilings (that is from the ceilings that aren't falling in) to keep a few rooms cool, walking around floors that are falling in, windows boarded up - just not the best of circumstances, but we figured the house is here - at the most a month, we'll be out - We can make it, It's only 2 of us -right - well not so much -

Here we are - almost November - today, by God's grace the contractor will start on the dirt work for the slab - so maybe, prayerfully we might be in the new house by Thanksgiving.  It has really been overwhelming - I could feel myself getting into such a depression.  How was I ever going to get out of this??

"Fake it til ya make it"

I started planning my housewarming party.  I have the majority of the menu planned, set a date, and started the gift registry at two local stores.  More than likely the date will probably have to be changed or the house won't be finished but hey nothing has to be perfect anymore right?  And why not act as if?  It definitely helped with my mood - it helps me to feel like I'm working toward something positive - I won't let the gloom and despair of life take me down.  I have lived there for a long time prior to recovery, I can't allow myself to completely go back into that dark dungeon of blackness.  It's too hard.

I want to walk in the freedom of being Happy, Joyous and Free regardless of the status of the house - regardless if I'm in pain, regardless if my heart breaks for my daughter - I don't have to give into that despair.

So, I'm planning a housewarming party without a house and consider yourself invited

November 26, 2006 - Lake Charles, LA - come one, come all -

Menu:

Gumbo, Veggie Soup, Chicken Salad Sandwiches, Shrimp dip, Sausage & BBQ sauce, kibby, Cheese dip, chips & salsa dip, Veggie tray, brownies, Pound cake, nuts, mints, and whatever else I can come up with.

It may seem a little silly to some - but I have learned I have the freedom to do whatever works for me - So I'm planning a party without a house and I'm ok with that.

Thanks for letting me share & I'm really serious about that invite!!

Peace & Joy to you,

Rita

Sounds exciting!

I can't imagine the mess that you are having to deal with on a daily basis.  I send you many kudos for being able to manage for as long as you have, especially when dealing with other issues as well.

As the saying goes.... so much depends on our own attitudes..... I don't think we hear that enough.  Maybe it shoud says our lives depend on our own attitudes.  It is so easy to be stuck in the muck when that is all we choose to look at.  But what a difference the world can look just by the change in our attitude.

You have a special place in my heart and in my prayers!

Cilla

(((Rita)))

I love your spirit.  You are right, nothing has to be perfect.  Just act as if everything will fall in line, and it will.  I do believe that is a true test of faith to continue to plan for that happy day when you can move into your new house and feel secure.  I do believe that planning for the happy times will bring them into fruition, thinking postive, speaking positive, and acting positive will bring about the positive changes you are seeking.

I love the menu!!  Thanks for the invite, I'll be there in spirit with ya.

Hugs,

Twinmom~

Dear (((((RitaG)))))

Thank you so much for the invite.  I LOVE Gumbo.  I have my own bottle of file' even.  Rabbit, duck, squirrel or crawdad gumbo?  (My Mom was from Baton Rouge.)

You could consider changing the name to what it really is... a heart warming party.  You have certainly shown what a wonderful heart you have here.  I hope your party is everything you would wish for.  You deserve it!

Take care of you!

Thanks so much for the well wishes -

as for the type of gumbo - if my husband is not too busy with the house stuff and gets to hunt - it will probably duck & deer sausage gumbo - if there are no ducks in the marsh - then it will be chicken & sausage gumbo w/ potato salad, Tony's, Tabasco & File' to spice it up just right!!  Maybe even a fresh pan of homemade cornbread or homemade yeast rolls whatever your choice - Now are you hungry or what???

Can you tell I have missed cooking?  I love to cook - it is my relaxation - not to mention it is a good way to bribe my girls into bringing those grandbabies over to the house!!

So even if you can't make the party - if you make a pass thru Lake Charles, you know where there will be some good food and a open door - As the cajuns say - "Come pass a good time"

hope you have a great afternoon,

Rita

(((((((((Rita))))))))),

I'll be working that day, but I'll be thinking of you.  Have a wonderful time.  I love your attitude.  Way to go girl!   You don't know what you're asking for by inviting all of us MIPers.  You are a brave womane indeed.  Your menu sounds yummy, and I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Love and blessings to you and your family.

Live strong,

Karilynn & Pipers Kitty
