Yesterday, a good family friends laid to rest two sons - Q. 23 yrs old & C. 30 yrs old -
Q. overdosed on Friday night and then while the family was preparing to attend the services, they were notified that C. had done the same thing. Now only God knows if either was intention or accidential, but does it really matter - the end result is still painfully the same.
These were the only two children the parents had. Like always, a great family, great people, the boys were great athletes - they had a bright future that was arrested by the disease.
So of course, this family was well-known in the community and the stories and gossip are flying about everywhere - And How Important is It? I want to scream at them - Does it really matter, people??? - Our friends (their parents, K & J) are hurting beyond imagination - can't you stop your gossip and just pray for comfort for them. But people are sick and they can't always do the next right thing - so I will ask my MIP family, who are like me - trying to be healthy, responsible adults - please lift K & J up in your thoughts and prayers. And also for all those out there who still suffer from this evil disease - may you find the path to recovery.
Thanks so much for letting me share my pain - I usually try to be positive and upbeat in my post here - but I needed to get this pain out - Again thanks my MIP family for listening,
Really struggling today to live Happy, Joyous and Free - One minute at a time,
Rita

How awful! I cannot even imagine the pain that family is in. When we have it bad with our own A we should think of all the others who are going through such devastating stuff.
I will surely lift you and your friends up in prayer.
I hope your friends know that al anon is here for them. If they ever find a way out of their grief or ever want to look for help, I hope they know we're here for them.
Sorry to hear about that family. It can happen to any us.
People gossip for many different reasons, one of them is due to fear. And some how talking about it happening to someone else may lessen the possibility of it happening to them. Just a thought.
I lost an uncle many yrs ago to aids -back when people thought you could get it drinking from the same water fountain. So I do relate to what ppl can say.
To me that is just plain callous. I would be so inclined to even interrupt (nicely of course) the gossip and say, “Imagine the prayers the family needs now” Then I would also add *them to my prayer list as well.
So sad this family is going through this. I can't imagine what they must be feeling right now. I will lift them up for healing and to be able to come to peace with this awful tradgedy. One of my cousins who was just turning 18 overdosed two years ago. No one really knew what happened but it rocked everyone in the community. One thing his mother did was print the obituary online in the Miami Herald and had an online website for friends and family to post their thoughts, feelings, and condolenses. She kept it up for a year and I believe it really helped her and our family get out that pain and grief. This disease is so cunning and baffling at the same time. Hugs to you as well. Stay strong.

What a terrible, terrible thing to happen. Please let them know that we at MIP are praying for them.
When my brother died at 28, my Mom later said she couldn't imagine anything worse to happen to a parent than to loose a child, no matter what age. I can't even imagine the pain they are in!
The diease took my 2 nephews/sons . 4 months and 3 days apart. I know where the family is at with the gossip. I startes attending a Grief Support group it helps. My mom is not doing with it. Dad is disabled.
