oh man, i screwed up with this job we are trying to get here at work.........the guy called LAST WEEK at least, ago, and asked me re: our employees or subs doing the actual painting.......i said they worked only for us, been with us for YEARS, but they were paid as subs...i mean i told the truth...........
jim, the paint salesman had a FIT....he had said to the prospect that they were employees.....well EMPLOYEES are on payroll/ can collect UI insurance, etc, they are NOT employees....anyway, i know i shouldn't have given the info....i was wrong, and i own that.....i just hope that it didn't cause the bid to go south.......it was over a week ago i talked with the guy....and that was after he had had us in for interview #1.....well today was interview #2 so i guess , if we went to interview #2, that means that they were interested in us enuf to call us back AFTER i gave the info re: subs vs. employees.......
i think our former salesman and still friend maor is right....its going to boil down to price....... who has the best price.......it usually does.....who has the lowest bid......so we must have been in the running....... after i answered this guy's ???s on the subs......otherwise he woudn't have had us back for interview #2.......now?? if the job goes under, and they don't say explicitely it was price, i'll get the blame for it.....but it makes NO sense if what i said "blew us out of the water" WHY would they call us back for interview #2........
i know i was wrong.....i learned a lesson over this...........DONT say anything to anyone re the bids...........have them call the sales people..........but what is done is done......i cannot do anything about it now............i hope this isn't a HARD lesson.....i mean it could cost me my job........or us a decent paint job.....here we are hurting for work, and i don't want to ADD to our strife.....we have enuf, with over priced bids, shooting us out of the water, OR we do a bid and someone in the office has a "friend" get the job..........i don't want to do ANYthing to harm this company........so for that i feel bad........

Corporate ethics.... ah, finally something I don't think was left here by aliens... LOL
You are right in that it is better, "politically correct", to leave the negotiating and info exchange to the sales person.... but there is a big difference between answering a question that wasn't yours "truthfully", and trying to match sales dudes exagerations.
You shouldn't accept responsability for not proliferating his twist on the truth.
If you have been invited back for a second presentation after that... it ment nothing to mr customer.
I don't care what your boss says. I don't entertain any vendor if I don't feel comfortable with their integrety. Especially not a second interview.
Any boss worth his salt should stay away for creating a scapegoat for a loss that hasn't happened yet. That wouldn't put him high on my list.
Take care of you....

You are human not perfect. You were asked a question and gave the answer you thought to be correct. At the end of the day you are right it will come down to the dollar and that is something you had nothing to do with. Hand it to HP. Luv Leo xx
Don't be so hard on yourself. The business world is full of potholes and occasionally we hit one. I hope that you get the bid and certainly you have learned the lesson.
In support
Megan
