Helpless VS Powerless

Hi I'm new to this board.  I'm hoping this is the right place to post, learn, and grow.  i am just working step 1, and I'm trying to understand powerlessness.  I am powerless, I understand that, but sometimes I feel helpless.  My A bent to kiss me yesterday, and the stale alcohol smell was sickening.  It pushed all my childhood buttons and sent me into depression.  I guess I need advise on how to start.

Thanks,Goldie

You can take back control of your life.  Stick with the program, get to meetings, work with a sponsor and talk out your feelings, to get you feeling better about yourself again.  We are family here, Welcome!!

Josey hit the head right on the nail bout meetings, etc.

I so relate to the smell of alcohol - UGH.  It does the same thing to me.

You are in the right place for sure ~ welcome home

Hello, Goldie, and welcome here,
We're so glad you're here, because it helps each of us with our Program, too.
My experience, strength, and hope are this: I went to LOTS of face to face meetings, I got a good sponsor who helped me work the steps and answer my questions, and was there with me as I took this miraculous journey into Alanon and the Steps, and I worked the steps. That means I spent lots of time writing and getting to know my own thoughts. At a face to face meeting you'll find lots of good Alanon literature.
It took me months to work the first step. But I had a really good sponsor who had lots more experience in the program than I did.
Blessings to you.

I thought it was just me.  I'm amazed that you feel the same.  That's healing in itself.  I afraid to go to face to face meeting, but I'll work on it.  thank you

(((((((Goldie))))))  I'm so glad you found this website too!   ** A BIG WELCOME. **

Please keep coming back and I wanted to add that there should be not fear of the face to face meetings. The alanon family already loves you...though you've yet to meet them ((Goldie.))LOL Everyone is warm and loving. Most have been in situations like yours.  It will surprise you how comforted you will feel afterward.  I remember feeling so FULL OF HOPE as I left, knowing there is support and guidance.  You will feel even better once you let yourself attend. ... I just know it.   There is no reason to feel afraid.  And know that you are safe there too.

If you need any help to find local meetings, please feel fee to private message me , just rightclick on my name and choose private message, then write to me and  I will do what I can to help you. Also books are very good in helping guide you each day. I can help with that too, if you need, just say the word.

Please, also want to add, to let us know here on the board how your first face to face meeting goes if/when you do decide to go. (((BIGHUG)))
