The reading for Monday, 1/20, discusses the reasons for having anonymity the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions. The author suggests we can put aside what we are and begin to know who we are. The author says we even need to extend anonymity to the alcoholic. The results of anonymity allow for respect and courtesy that keep members feeling safe, free from labels, and give us the freedom to be ourselves.

I know when I first began program, I was concerned with my privacy. I wondered how so many people we might encounter would uphold this tradition. Its interesting to me that the longer Ive been in recovery, the less I care about who might say something about me out of the rooms. I have received so much help that what I focus on is gratitude and practicing the tools that keep me sane and balanced. After all, I must accept the things I have no control of, and focus on what I can change. Thats plenty to keep me busy! Lyne
Good morning Lyne and MIP! Happy Monday to one and all. Thank you for your service and the daily - I too had concerns about my privacy and am still a very private person. I found recovery refreshing and safe - I did not have to concern myself with who was there, who would share beyond there and who would judge or advise me!
I am always grateful for the wisdom gifted to those who came before me....the program, steps, traditions, etc. as designed truly do work when we embrace them and work it. What a lovely relief and great comfort to know that any place I go, any state, country, etc. I can find others to share with and not be concerned about gossip, judgement, unsolicited advice (always exceptions) and the like.
Enjoy the day all - it's darn cold here!! Loved, loved, loved Sunday football yesterday - my team is going to the Super Bowl! We already have 3 parties to choose from - life is good...Tacos tonight with my recovery gal pal taco team - I am planning to keep my joy!! (((Hugs)))

Good Moning Lyne I believe thar the principle of anonymity is one that permitted me , and many others to keep coming back.. i found that the members held the prnciples of the program as sacred and that focusing on program during discussions helped me to grow.
Thanks for your service
Thank you so much Lyne for today's reading and your service!
I cannot see how, when you think about the help that Al Anon provides, how anonymity could ever be comprised and still work! That is how so important I view it.
I believe the program works at it's best when the participants feel safe and therefore free to find themselves, their HP and their freedom.
Blessings
