The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Don't let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy.
We may lose, or we may win...
but we will never be here again.
So open up I'm climbing in...
Take it easy...
I have shared here a few times that my Uncle recently fell from his addictions. In helping my folks go through what little stuff he had, I saw a couple of music cd's that they won't ever listen to. So they let me have them.
We spent an hour or so going through stuff... working, then spent several hours talking about his life. With all the misery an addict shows the outside world, he touched many lives while in and out of recovery.
He spent a lot of his sober time working with treatment centers to help others, and also was a valued contributer to the local AA scene. He was very intellegent and a dynamic speaker.
I have felt a lot of guilt over the fact that some of this information I didn't know... I was too busy being pissed at him for the pain he inflicted on the family due to the disease.
So on my drive home I had a lot of that guilt welling up in me and kinda subconsiously poped in one of the cd's sitting on the car seat. It happened to be the Eagles Greatest hits. (the one I grabbed from his collection) Take it easy is the first track.
Without this program, I don't think I would have thought a thing about it. But you know, right then, I needed to hear those words from somebody and I heard them because this program has allowed me to calm down... step away from the hysteria long enough see what inspiration is there for the taking.
Thanks to all of you for your part in that! I am so grateful you are here.

Well rx you said it yourself " alot u didn't know ", when we don't' understand this disease all we know is anger we only see what they are doing to those who love them. forgive yourself for what u didn't know or understand. When we know better we do better.
Your gaining some understanding about this disease in Al-Anon which allows us to have some compassion and for me gratitude that I do not suffer from the disease of alcoholism.
