Hope for Today Sept 5

Good morning Everyone-

Today's reading is about the discovery that we can choose to enjoy this day (the present).  The writer reflects that he/she realized he/she was often stuck in the past-- over time it became clear that this was due to having lived with alcoholism.  As a child that meant many 'present days' were awful enough to wish for the past or future.  Growing through the program helped develop the strength to know that living in the present is the best plan in order to have an even better future.

This reading resonates with me; I  know I am a ruminator and mull things over. It is very easy for me to get stuck in the past and worry over how I might have influenced situations or done things differently.  For me, letting go of the notion that I can control things to this level... even in retrospect, is a great reminder that the best thing I can do for myself is live in the right now.

I appreciate that the Thought for the Day reminds us if we don't like the offering of the present day we are in, we can ask our HP for an adjustment in OUR attitude about that.

Today I will work on being present in the moment!  Hope you all have a great Tuesday.

Mary

Good Morning Mary, I really appreciated this reminder of living in the "Present Moment'.  I read in one of our readers that the only time "true change" can happen is if we are in the true present. This inspired me to work diligently to let go of the past and not project to the future.

Using alanon tools to stay in the moment and in the day helped me to face many of my negative demons and let them go.  .My life and days have improved greatly.
I am so grateful for these tools. Thanks for your service

Good morning, Mary. That you for todays share and your reflections.

This one resonated with me as well, I tend to get caught up in the "fear and dread of the future" in addition to worrying about the past. I am thankful for the tools of the program that help me work toward staying in the present and enjoying the things today has to offer.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Thank you for your service, Mary.
I liked this one a lot!

I especially liked..." I appreciate that the Thought for the Day reminds us if we don't like the offering of the present day we are in, we can ask our HP for an adjustment in OUR attitude about that."

Mary - thanks for your service and the daily...

All above me - thank you for your shares & ESH. I too came to recovery and was not EVER present. I was either in the past or projecting gloom/doom for the future. I am so grateful we get to practice being present - it truly makes many things much easier in my magnifying/mystifying brain!

Reminders, slogans and meetings help me see that this path is a great one for me. Living just for today gives me peace of mind and the desire to keep my sanity/serenity as is.

Make it a great Tuesday - we are having 'marvelous window weather'.....love fresh air and moderate temperatures! (((Hugs))) to all!

Thank you for today's message.  We had really great discussion and shares about it at today's meeting.

I was also the one so busy holding onto resentment from yesterday, dreading tomorrow and practicing arguments in my head and imagining hurts that never happened.....that I couldn't tell you what was happening right in that moment.  Although I still waste too much energy on projecting, I catch myself much faster. I will no longer entertain arguments in my head; they're bad enough in real life!

Happy Tues to all!

Ellen

Awesome post and just what I needed to hear.... I've been having a great dial of difficulty staying in the present and instead conjuring stories as a distraction.
