This book has the adult child in mind.

Todays reading talks about having a hole in our hearts from childhood, growing up with alcoholic parents, and thinking others will fill it, including the alcoholic husband.

The reading talks about how working the alanon program can free us from secrets of our childhood and we can then begin to heal. Noone can relieve our suffering except our higher power. The final part of the reading talks about breaking the isolation, bring the past out into the light, sharing with someone who understands then we can let it go.

Thanks LC I like this reading . Acknowledging the fact of growing up with a hole in the heart and keeping secrets instead of sharing is an important part of looking into the past and working the Steps to heal.

I never understood how the destructive attitudes and tools that I developed as a child in order to survive the insanity of alcoholism in my family, would hurt me in adult life. They worked well as a child as they kept me safe and the world out. As a grown up, not allowing the world in, connecting with others and isolating was a terrible way to live and kept me alone and on the outside.

Upon entering Al-Anon, I was given powerful tools that allowed me to look within without staring, own what I found there, share it with someone that I trusted and wonder of wonders, the hole in my heart became smaller and I was not destroyed by revealing a secret.

It is very important to know that this is a "we" program and that sharing, connecting and breaking the isolation is crucial to recovery. Thank God for Al-Anon and Al-Anon for God
