dealing with ridiculous drivers!

This morning I took my daughter to school, she wanted to stop at McDonald's, it is a very  busy intersection.  I was in a hit and run accident a few months ago,a woman ran a red light and totaled my car,I spun clear around in the road, so I am more careful when I drive and sometimes I have anxiety now when I am in a lot of traffic.  As I was trying to pull out the woman  behind me started blowing her horn,I guess that was supposed to make me pull out into oncoming traffic? Well I waited and pulled up a little to get a better view and she rear ended me!!I got out of my car and I could tell she felt pretty stupid, she blamed it on her son who was late for school. There wasn't any damage but I explained to her about my driving anxiety and I said ,well I will try to get out of here without having  a panic attack.I think I handled it okay,I was angry but I didn't yell at her.Still I don't understand drivers who want to try and force you to pull out when you aren't comfortable with it.Another thing I have noticed here that is bad are tailgaters, for some reason in this area people want to ride your butt!Driving is something that really causes anxiety in me because honestly people are really stupid about driving nowadays.

Snowy weather brings them out! Where i live i get 10 miles of road to myself mostly
It is great. Then when i merge with traffic everyone wants to snug right up, do they
Realize there is snow and ice on the road and should keep a distance away from each
Other. It always amazes me! I am glad i live in the country not as many cars and traffic.

HI Mary,

I have driven in England on the wrong side of the road, Paris, Athens, northern Italy, and the one common denominator between them and wherever else I drive is that they all have the worst drivers in the world!

When these things happen, especially with drivers, I think there is a first step there, where I have to admit that I am powerless over other morons in other vehicles. At that point I find the freedom to stay out of their way as much as possible, and try not to understand irrational motivations (it was her son's fault, mom sounds like the teenager in the car!)

My son is 14, and I am beginning to try to give him teachable lessons in driving. Very few of them have to do with steering wheels, clutches, and turn signals, most of them are observing other people and watching out for them, and really not caring if they get somewhere first and pulled out in front of me. I think they don't teach enough of that in driver's ed.

Frustrating drivers are everywhere - recently I was turning left at a busy intersection and the guy behind me didn't think I was moving fast enough so he started honking which caused me to brake and look around for who was honking at me - you can imagine the hand gestures that he gifted me with as he finally passed me!

People are is such a hurry these days, late for everything and it causes them to be careless in their driving, which means I have to be MORE careful.

I gotcha Jerry. Just joking. I think that's a large part of why people are crappy drivers these days. More so, I think it's aggressive driving rather than defensive driving like we are all taught to begin with.

I understand. My STBXAH has a lot of road rage. I dont remember one time driving with him without him constantly talking about the other drivers and how they were always wrong. Everytime we drove together, we would argue. I would complain about him driving too fast, or if I was driving he would say I was driving too slow. He has gotten literally tons of tickets for speeding. I always begged him to just carry on a conversation with me and be relaxed, but it rarely happened. So sad.

I can drive peacefully now without him around!
