Good morning my dear MIP family. I just wanted to wish you all a GREAT day. I'm chairing my f2f meetings this month, and my topic for today is going to be "helping the alcoholic", found in the Al-Anon daily reader One Day At A Time. That topic sounds kind of ironic, doesn't it? We all know there is nothing we can do to save our alcoholics and we all know we can't control his/her drinking, but there are things we can do to help the a, and there are things we shouldn't do to help our alcoholics. If you haven't read this particular topic in ODAAT, I challenge you to do so.
It works if you work it, so let's all keep working it!

Good luck chairing the meeting Cloudy Skies. I think that's an excellent topic and one that will promote much discussion and new understanding.
Actually the fifth tradition talks about Al-Anon's purpose and the details the fact that oure purpose is to help families of alcoholics. It then goes on to state we do this by:" practicing the 12 steps of AA ourselves, by encouraging and understanding are alcoholic relatives and by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics. So even in the traditions it is recognized how important it is to encourage and understand the alcoholic.
I believe one of the most powerful lessons that I finally learned in Al-Anon was what kind of" help"was constructive and helpful and what was destructive and self-serving.
I love the reading in the ODAT and thank you for sharing it with us.
