hi strangers! I am missing this board and really need to get back to being more active! The holidays were fast and furious and now life is getting back to our "normal". Hope the New Year has been good for ya'll!
i have 3 teenagers. My middle teen is really struggling and last night she and I had a very long talk. I want to refer her to an ala teen board, maybe similar to this one? Do your have any suggestions? The poor girl is certain that her Dad drinks because he doesn't care about any of us...she is hurting and I want to get her some assurance that she is not alone in this struggle. I am going to try and find a face-to-face meeting for her and her siblings to attend, but in the mean time I appreciate your input on this.
I am workIng my program. I have found some serenity after having a major setback with my AH. I figure it's my health or his and I have no control over his, so I need to be good for my kids. Focusing on how great my life is, how blessed I am and that at the end of the day, this problem of my AH's is NOT mine. its a second by second choice to not react, but I'm slowly getting e hang of things. Hope you are all well and thank you for being here - I read a lot but don't post much, but comfort is always here.
I don't have any suggestions for online Alateen. F2F with an adult sponsor who has to go through some really rigorous background checks, etc would be more to my liking for my teens but there might be a safe on-line group? I'm not sure.
I do like reading that you found some serenity after having a major setback with your AH, that you know you have no control over him or the disease, but you can be good for your kids. I've been in this program for over 30 years. I know that I'm always arriving and never get there. I can get hooked by the disease. I'm still not immune. What I like in your share is that you are recognizing that you have made progress and that you want to continue to make progress by working the program. That's a big change from feeling helpless and hopeless. You are certainly a MIP. (Fairlee)
Aloha Fairlee...good to see you drop in. You got my hearts attention as it use to sponsor Alateen for 6+ years. That program is a part of Al-Anon and so if there are no face to face Alateen meeting where you are at, Al-Anon can and will cover it. There should be wide acceptance of her cause the only difference twix her and the rest of the fellowship is age and gender depending if the attendance is mixed gender. She might understand more listening to females at first. I suggest you get her into the meetings you attend. One of my sponsees used to bring his son and daughter and both are doing well today. Just suggestion.
The disease is hard on the young ones and then surprisingly it is the young ones that recovery really fast because they don't have the longevity we have had in the problem and therefore the bad habits.
If there are Alateen meetings? Take your daughters, get the literature and put them in the rooms and of course....detach....let them go. In support (((((hugs)))))
