Hi I am Marva. I am new to the board and have a passing familiarity with Alanon. I've referred many to it. I live in a rural area with no meetings and I need help. I am involved with a man who is sober 30+ years with no program and no peaceful sobriety. He might as well still be drunk the way I react to him. I really need help in sorting me out. I am an ACA and very codependent. I know all of this, but powerless to help myself. HELP
Hi Marva and welcome to MIP, I am glad you found us! The first book I read when I came here was "Getting Them Sober" by Toby Rice Drews and the second book was "Codependent No More" by Melody Beattie, both explained to me a lot about me and my situation and gave me tools to get better. Sending you lots of love and support on your journey!

HELLO Sapphronia Welcome to Miracles in Progress. I am glad you found us and reached out. It certainly sounds as if you are familiar with alanon and the concepts.
We are indeed powerless over alcohol and a non drinking alcoholic, without program has all the" isms" untreated and we do react in a negative fashion to them.
In this program I learned to keep the focus on myself, not to react but to act in my own best interest, live one day at a time, trusting God.
I received the support I needed form meetings and since you are not able to attend here is the schedule for our on line meetings
Morning Meetings
Mon. - Fri. at 9am EST
Sat. - Sun at 10am EST
Each Sunday morning at 10 am EST, we will be having a Spiritual meeting with a topic relating to the Spiritual part of our program.
Night Meetings
Mon-Saturday 9PM eastern time
Sunday 7PM eastern time
Each Thursday night at 9PM EST, we will be having a Step/Tradition Meeting to help new people get to know and understand how to work the 12 steps.
After going through one Step per week, and getting through the 12 of them, we then start a Tradition a week on this same night.
You are not alone and breaking the isolation is extremely important to your recovery. Keep coming back
Hi Marva, what a nice smile on your face ...welcome....i am recovering aca and coda as well and alanon is perfect for both.....we have on line meets here, 2x per day, i think and they are great....going to the meets, you start chatting w/ healthy folks and gradually you begin to get into the steps, slogans, literature as you go......
this program has been a miracle for me.....your sig. other with no program will just be a dry drunk with all the characteristics of a drunk, but sober....and i hear ya about reacting...alanon will help you to be responding rather than knee jerk reacting....and they (dry or wet drunks) love to toss that rope on the ground for us to pick up and play tug o war in an emotional sense....
i do hope you hang out w/us and get into taking care of you...detaching from or letting go of his problems...his business is his to fix....you didn't cause his problems, you will never control them and for sure you won't cure his ways...only he can do that....and if hes unwilling, that doesn't mean you have to put your life on hold or live in misery, you just work on you, find your own fun, do your thing, be with him but not absorbing all this negativity.......
glad you showed up......

Welcome. The other members have given good experience/strength/hope and the suggestion to attend on-line meetings. I'd just like to greet you and encourage you to keep coming back. We understand. We've been there or still are there. Glad you're here.
