Christmas Music

This morning while doing dishes, yes I am an AM dish washer, don't know exactly why, don't care exactly why, I just like doing them in the quiet morning. Anyway - I was singing quietly to myself my oldest favorite Christmas song and thinking (yes, thinking comes with singing) about all the great Christmas songs out there - how I love listening to Christmas music on Pandora because of the wide variety that can be found there. Jingle Bell Rock, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer, Ave Maria - I did say wide variety, right? So I thought of a question - What's your favorite Christmas song and what's the memory that goes along with it? My favorite is We Three Kings; I remember singing it as dad drove home from the old farm after we'd seen all the relatives on that side of the family, vague shadow remembrances of the old farmhouse, of kids eating at the kids table and opening presents; but I DO remember sitting in the backseat looking out the back window on the drive home, singing to myself as I looked for the stars - star of wonder, star of might, star of royal beauty bright, westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light. That's my favorite Christmas song and the memory attached to it - what's yours?

ps - still healing, gooey ickyness oozing from sore places but not many pain meds needed anymore, thankful for the body's self-healing powers!

LMH Love this topic
Deck the Halls is my favorite The reason is that I can still see my son, as a tiny child singing his heart out to that song . When it came to the words:"Boughs of holly," he never could remember or pronounce the words and would sing:" Deck the halls with" fa sa la tee "and go on to sing the rest of the song fa la la la . It was adorable

I love Christmas music. My favorite classic carol is Walking in a Winter wonderland,I did love snow when I was a kid.I would sleigh ride in the snow til my fingers were blue,That was some time ago and my mom would put plastic bread sacks under my mittens to try and keep me dry.I even had snow down in my boots. If you get a chance listen to Kenny Loggins Christmas album,I love all the songs, some are real tear jerkers. Oh, and My grown up Christmas list is good ,too.

I love the funny ones, my Mom would play around Christmas time, there is one called My Sombrero is too big. It's a cute song about this guy that got an oversized sombrero from Santa and he isn't happy about it. It used to make us all laugh soo hard. The tape cassette also had Grama got ran over by a reindeer and so many more I can't remember the titles of. I loved the happy memories! Thanks!!!!

Gosh, I have so many favorites.  I love all of the classics sung at midnight mass in church, which is a memory, as I rarely go to church anymore smile

I have two: "I Wonder as I Wander" which always reminds me to be open without always having a specific destination in mind as I did once upon a time as a trusting and awe filled child. "The First Noel" which my Dad and I sang together every Christmas for as long as I can remember and was the last song we sang together before he died.

I like reading your memories more than I like the songs themselves. Betty, that memory is adorable. I'm taking it with me.

My favorite Christmas song is "Mary did You Know." I don't have a memory attached to this one, it's just my favorite. It makes me feel very close to God.

I love this thread.

"Oh Holy Night" is my absolute favorite ...Charlotte Church sings an awesome version. I was just telling my family they must play this at my funeral, no matter what time of year. I love Christmas that much...lol! I have the pandora Christmas channel on all day. Love it!
