The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
I missed my weekly face to face meeting yesterday because I have bronchitis. Our meeting was cancelled last week due to it falling on Thanksgiving, so I'm feeling it. I'm finding myself going back to step 3 often. "Make a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him."This is such a simple statement, and the action in this statement is to make a decision. I found this little scenario in Paths to Recovery, Al-Anon's Steps and Traditions, "Three frogs sat on a lily pad. One made the decision to jump off. How many are left?" The answer is three. The frog merely made the decision to jump. He hasn't jumped yet.
So my point here is it's easy to make the decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understand Him, but for me, it's harder to actually do it.
So, I'm going back and doing some work on step 3.
It works if you work it.

Linda I believe that all Step 3 asks us to do is make the decision to turn our will over. Actually doing so is a process that takes working the other Steps.
I made the decision to turn my will over and then decided to use the alanon program, slogans, meetings, sponsor, steps . literature and 3rd step prayer to accomplish this daily . Showing up, working the program was my way of working this decision.
When I arrived at Step 12 "Having had a Spiritual Awakening " I could practice these principles in all my affairs.
