He is talking about continued therapy, but says everyone there says they hate AA. He wont say much about detox or what we can do together after therapy. I am so nervous, I feel sick.
HI Welcome to MIP Kath I can understand your concern. Detox is a difficult procedure and many dislike it. For your information the AMA has designated alcoholism as a progressive, chronic , fatal disease that can be arrested and never cured. AA is a powerful resource in helping the alcoholic stay sober. Al-Anon is the recovery program for family members who have lived with the insanity of alcoholism. There are face-to-face meetings held in most communities and the hotline number for Al-Anon is found in the white pages. I urge yu to call and attend
Right now I suggest that you relax, take some deep breaths , and try to attend to logon to one of our online meetings that is held here this evening and again in the morning.
Here is the schedule
Morning Meetings
Mon. - Fri. at 9am EST
Sat. - Sun at 10am EST
Each Sunday morning at 10 am EST, we will be having a Spiritual meeting with a topic relating to the Spiritual part of our program.
Welcome to MIP. I, like Hotrod, encourage you to attend Al-Anon meetings. They are a big help for people who are troubled by a loved one's drinking. Alcoholism is a crazy making disease. What works for someone with a different kind of disease might not work with a loved one with this one. Being among others who have experienced what you have and will experience goes a long way in helping us live our lives with dignity and self-care whether or not our loved one gets into a recovery program for themselves. We learn what works for us and how to let go of what might not work well in relationship to our alcoholic. One day at a time we learn how to put faith and trust in place of fear and discouragement. We learn how to detach from our loved ones in ways that work for us and allow them the dignity of making their own choices free of our interference, worry and unnecessary self-sacrifice. I do hope you will attend meetings and come back here, too.
Aloha Kath and I join with the others welcoming you to the board. I agree with the suggestions of Al-Anon meetings. It is what I did also and why I'm still alive and more sane than before living in the disease. From my past experience as a therapist working within a rehab I suggest you don't take the criticism of recovery; any form that your alcoholic brings back from rehab. There isn't a whole lot of early wisdom there because the recovery idea is very new and the recovery practice even newer. Get to Al-Anon for Kathy F and keep attending for her also. (((((hugs)))))
Some rehabs may speak negative about AA. I can tell you the reason if they do. They want them to relapse and make more money off them. 5 days in rehab is a joke anyhow. Keep expectations low and go to Alanon for yourself. This does not sound like a sincere effort at sobriety.
Welcome and I understand your angst about your AH.....however there is nothing you can do re: his recovery.....when i first got into alanon, the older folks told me "go to as many meets as there are days".....I was like "whaaaat???" but i listened and figured "ok, they are prospering, i should follow the successes" and i did...i went to as many meets as there were days and i saw why they said that.......i was focusing on anything (past- other people-family members-work problems) ANYTHING but ME...I needed to focus on and work on ME!! alanon showed me how....i am not where i want to be, but i am way better than i used to be....
please keep coming back and hang onto alanon, it works.....In support

5 days of rehab is a detox, not a rehab. In my experience with my wife, it was 5 days of not doing too much but monitoring for seizures, taking anti-convulsion meds. It was 5 days before her head got screwed back on well enough to be able to do any work.
Get to Al Anon for you, same suggestions from me! Keep coming back here too!
