I have an apartment sized kitchen trying to fit a garbage bag full of plastic containers into a cabinet that holds both my glass ware and anything plastic. Literally it's the only cabinet available to deal with this issue.
I'm debating if I should just donate the whole garbage bag of containers and get new ones at this point to try to just move forward?
I have very weak organization skills in terms of trying to deal with this kind of thing.
What have you done when in this situation for those who have had to down size?
Thanks,
S :)

((SRU)) Look at the downsizing as a blessing and growth process. I've had to donate and toss many items and am still in the process. It's not easy, but it is very cleansing. I can't say that I've missed the things that are gone...while, there are times I do wish I had extra storage containers for food leftovers, I can improvise. How important is it comes to mind. If you have no other place to store them, maybe they're no longer a necessity as you begin a new path.
SRU I must agree with Bud- I too have downsized and am so grateful to be a minimalist now. I would discard them into the recyclable bin and when I needed replacements purchase them at the 99 cent store.
I just pulled a ton of stuff out of closets, I forced my son to give up old stuffed animals for charity, and I cleaned out my clothing and dresses and gave away a bunch of stuff. I am NOT sentimental and I throw A LOT of stuff out, LOL. If you need me to come on over I can fly up and throw stuff out for you. OK, just kidding.
As for me: I found that investing in a small storage set like a Rubbermaid set from Walmart was worth it. New storage set, new lids, everything clicks together and stacks nicely, etc. I'd think nothing of getting rid of a bag of stuff if it didn't fit or didn't make sense to keep because I could also write off the donation on my taxes.
With that said, I just now saw that you got rid of it anyway, LOL. I guess I'm late to the party!

When I moved from a big farm house with out buildings on 20 acres to a 2 bedroom apartment to say I had a hard time down sizing is an understatement big time. I had to let go of many things and for some weird reason I felt sentimentally about many things. Now I don't miss all that stuff and not feeling cluttered feels good. Sending you love and support!

Super job! Doesn't it feel good to have that decision behind you? To me, it feels like a part of me also waits in the dining room/basement/garage with the overage until it's gone... attachments....
I recycled my plastic stuff when I couldn't find matching lids. It feels good to get rid of things. I moved into a very small apartment and realized I don't need much at all!
I am too trying to downsize. It is a rough road for me. Over a month ago, my A decided to lose it over the mess I have created in my life. A hoard at a time. I am still a work in progress. I spend as much time as I can going through things. I guess it takes time. I already have rubber totes full of stuff. I promised myself not to collect anything more. I have to keep working on this. I guess it takes what it takes. I want to change.
