Your growth in a short period of time has been huge and his violence in the same time frame has amped up, big time.  I am glad you found the forum...this is a great place to speak, be heard and supported.  I am so sorry for the violence you and your grandson experienced, none of which was caused by either of you.  This is not your fault.  We are here 24/7....you are not alone.
