This has been a week of driving, driving and more driving. Thursday we drove from N. Virginia to S. Atlanta (9 hours). We hung out here a few days and then headed to Florida (5-6 hours). And we had perfecet weather and no traffic delays. Praise God. We did see a very bad accident (in the opposite lanes) where a helicopter was on the highway to transport at least one person we saw. The car was just a pile of metal, unrecognizable. Very sad. My son went through the process of entrance exams, registering, buying books, moving into dorm, etc. I was able to get over to the beach for a few hours; that was nice. I ended up leaving a day early as we got done sooner than I thought we would. That saved me $125 on the hotel for another night. And we took too much stuff for the dorm so I returned $109 to Walmart. Just God looking out for me. :) My son is really liking the college life. He is the only one in his dorm w/ a vehicle. He has been taking his roommates to the store, but I have told him not to be the taxi driver. Once school starts they should be too busy to be running around. I am glad I spent a small fortune to get him a truck so they all had a way to the store. lol. One of his roommates is from Korea, so obviously he can't bring a car. He had a few meals w/ us as he is here alone. I told my son to trade rides for tutoring help. :) I had a few moments of sadness, but it was short lived. My sister is out of town for the week so it's just me and her dalmation. I am doing some housecleaning to earn my keep. lol! Today, I organized the garage as much as you can do someone else's garage. If it were mine I would have thrown out a lot of stuff and also bought some organizatonal units, etc. But, I got my car in the garage & before you could barely walk though it. And I organized the pantry. Tomorrow I will tackle the refrigerator. The freezer is scary so not sure I will try that. lol! Her house is spotless so nothing to do there. I do need to get my tags and driver's license and general stuff like that changed over. I am trying to be patient w/ the legal process of getting a PSA (financial agreement) so that I have some $. My atty. is looking out for me, and I am going to let him do his job. I am doing well, and just chillin'. Next week my sister and I will fine tune my resume and cover letter and then I will get busy job hunting. Over the weekend I had considered moving back to Florida, but with a little research it seems that is not a good idea at this time. I will just settle here for now, and look at that later on. I live closer to my son's father here and my son likes that for when he is on breaks. I need to church shop as well. My former church (when I lived near here in the 90s) is a little too far (40 mins.) so will visit but not go weekly as I like to go to a local church. I have found a few I will visit. I may go to one Wed. night and the other Sunday morning.
Thanks for the notes of encouragement. It is so nice having encouraging notes, thoughts and prayers. I really do appreciate it; it makes a huge difference.
Hi, Blessed. I'm so glad you made it to both places safely. I smiled when I read how happy your son is to be in college. Good for him. It sounds as if you are not letting grass grow under your feet either. You're getting right on starting your new life from the way your thread reads? I hope you find a job that pays that you enjoy as much or more than your previous job.
This has been an interesting day. I got up and looked up all the information to get tags, title transfer, driver's license, emissions, etc. and thought I had all the necessary paperwork. Of course I didn't, so had to run to storage and get passport out of safe.... but I perservered and was determined to not get aggravated. When I put on my shorts I found $100 in the pocket. Woo Hoo. Thanks HP (God). The one not so good thing is that the title transfer/registration is going to be $810. Ouch. But, I need for the ins. co. to show on the state system that I have transferred ins. And if you don't pay in cash, they charge you another 2.5% to put on c.c. What a racket. And I still have to transfer my son's over as soon as the title arrives in a few weeks. Oh my. His vehicle is worth more than mine so it will be more.
But, I trust in God and will not be shaken. It is only money, right. :) He is not surprised by any of this.
Oh, another good thing is that while I was at the emissions station I recognized that they were playing Christian music. (This is the bible belt so not too unusual). The emission man is an Asst. Pastor and the lady sitting there (his friend I presume) asked me if I had found a church. She goes to a Divorce Care group on Wed. night and invited me to attend this evening. That was nice of her. I am thinking I might go. I also have the address to the local AlAnon group and they meet tomorrow, so I do plan on going to that.
I cleaned out the freezer; not too bad and next is to tackle the refrigerator. I'm on a roll. :) This girl does not need to buy food for a month. Oh my! I guess options are good. lol! From where I sit, on a comfy couch with more than enough food, no debt, a little $ in my wallet, A/C, running water, a car w/ gas there is very little I have to complain about. So, I wil focus on the good; and dismiss all the rest. And I think I will take the doggie for a walk.
Oh, my son has texted a few times. He has had his history class and said there is a quiz on Friday he said he is going to ace. His goal is to get a perfect A. That makes a mamma's heart happy that he is not just skimming by; but going for it. It was funny at class assignement meeting - he had told me on his math entrance exam he didn't think he did well on the algebra portion, but aced the basic math part - but apparenently he did do well on the algebra. So that was encouraging. He said he made educated guesses. Better than just marking boxes I suppose. He didn't test out of anything, but also is not in any remedial classes. Phew! The Faculty Advisor said the first semester was basicly a repeat of high school & homeschool high school is generally above the average public school, so he should do well and build his confidence going into the next semester/year. What I love about this school is that the faculty and Admin has a goal of all students succeeding. Some larger Universities don't care if you show up to class or not. They are very supportive and caring. And the tuition is affordable so most students will graduate debt-free & can work their way through if necessary. It makes it so much easier to leave him there. Oh, it is Pensacola Christian College in Florida.
Have a beautiful day friends.

What a perfectly delightful and productive day you seemed to have enjoyed? Glad your son is taking right to his studies, too. $100 in your shorts pocket - Now if that isn't a special gift to receive before or after learning the cost to transfer everything?
Blessed, it's funny how often (even though I only know you from your posts here) you've been on my mind these past few weeks. I've been hoping you've been doing well and that your trip to take your son to school went smoothly. Sounds like everything's coming right along and that you'll soon be happily settled in your new life. I know it isn't as easy as it all sounds, of course, but I'm so glad you're doing this well.
What is interesting, as I choose to live One Day At A Time, is that people ask WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO and WHEN? My standard answer is, "I don't know."
Today, I stopped by a community of new homes and the lady says, "So, when are you planning to move?"
I don't know. All I know is that it won't be today. lol! Of course she was ready for me to sign a contract & pick my colors. :) I did like the house though.
Tomorrow I am going to a complimentary CrossFit class. Of course, they want an annual contract, but I don't know where I will live so no long term contracts for me right now.
I went to the shooting range to inquire and they want a long-term contract. Nope. Can't do it. :)
For a person that had the rest of my life planned out; this is very odd. But, I don't mind it. I just say, "no", and that's that. No is a complete sentence. :)
Of course my plans were sabotaged and did not go the way I had planned. So, more proof that there is no sense living past today.
