Lol, a while ago someone mentioned these here on MIP and I asked what they were. I thought they sounded delicious so when I saw them today, I bought them and....
BLECH!!! They're horrible!!! So sickly sweet I couldn't even finish one!!! LOL!!! They must be made for American taste buds
Anyway.
Things are feeling good. Not easy but good all the same. I've been pushing myself to get out and DO instead of stay home and contemplate doing. So I've been driving and getting used to that, I haven't started my new course/work placement yet, that's still a week away but I did rejoin a cosmetic company I used to sell for (quite lucrative believe it or not) and have found what I think is the right place to rent for my girl and I. Plus gathering supplies to make stuff to sell at market. I am starting to feel as though I belong again to the world outside and it's a great feeling. And I aim to keep myself as busy as I can so that I don't have time to second-guess myself or fool myself into thinking I miss ABF.
I guess I am starting to be in the "action" phase. Being able to get around has been a HUGE confidence boost, I can't tell you how good it feels.
Things are good, I was contemplating earlier how just doing one right thing after another and leaving the "impossible" stuff to HP eventually turns into big changes and achievements. So simple- one foot in front of the other....
yay!!!
(((Everyone)))

lol, too funny Mel! yeah they are sickly sweet, a lot of "our" candies and drinks are that way unfortunately. So nice to hear you doing stuff to make your life better! Glad you are driving and getting out there!

Well, they are still better than Vegemite! OK, I've never had Vegemite, so I guess I don't know for sure. Glad things are going well for you, keep it up!
It might be the peanut butter that insults your taste buds? An escort from Spain lived with my daughter and me for a month as her 24 charges stayed in others' homes. She'd get calls daily from her students - all complaining that Americans were crazy because we thought peanut butter and applesauce were delicious. They all gagged and wanted to know from their escort how to handle their gagging over peanut butter and applesauce diplomatically.
Glad to hear that you are enjoying your driving and your new found freedom and experiences.
Nah I love peanut butter. We have a peanut butter chocolate here that is similar but the peanut butter isn't sweet and it's a dark chocolate also not very sweet. I was expecting something similar I guess...I was just a bit shocked to find the peanut butter sweetened; ours is just super-salty. I didn't mean to insult American taste-buds lol, sorry! Applesauce works for me too
Kenny, next time I'm in a creative kitchen type mood i'm going to try to encapsulate vegemite in chocolate. Why not!
You never know, it might be fantastic.

You didn't insult this American's tastebuds. I'm not a big milk chocolate fan for the same reason. Too sweet. I do like the darker chocolate much better. I do like Reece's, however, and will buy those from time to time. I'd like to try your peanut butter. I don't eat much of ours and applesauce rarely touches my mouth. I guess I could empathize with the visitors from Spain. I thought it was funny for them to dislike what are almost staples in some American children's diets. Right up there with bologna yuck and tuna noodle casserole with peas more yuck - for me.
No matter how many times I am asked this question, I cannot think of a suitable answer. I know that when I have offered it to foreign visitors, their response is to do some gagging and say "OMG, that,s just....awful....".
Vegemite is a "spread" made from brewers yeast (yes, a by-product of beer manufacturing). It's black and looks like tar. It's apparently incredibly high in B vitamins and is a notorious hang-over cure. Also known for helping with sore throats. Basically it is weird black goo that we put on toast (and add to all sorts of recipes). I grew up with it; if I had to choose 5 foods to take to a desert island, it would be one of them.
To anyone that didn't grow up with it, it's kind of up there with soylent green, lol

Okay then. (And she turns to her cats and whispers: I will never, ever eat black goo on toast no matter how high in B vitamins. I'd eat tuna noodle casserole with peas before I'd eat that.) And to Melly: Thank you so much for the description of vegemite. It's amazing how many things one can make with brewers yeast.
LOL genuine belly laughs going on here
It's really very good, LOL and anyway I tried peanut butter cups so I'll be offended if you don't try our weird black goo if you are ever given the chance!!!!!
(And she turns to her cat and whispers "she doesn't know what she's missing, does she?")
And the cat thinks to himself "Are you talking about that awful black goo you keep using to destroy perfectly good pieces of toast?"

There's a market here where I can get vegemite, just might do so, there is also a brand of peanut butter, Adams I think, that is natural peanut butter with no sugar added. When I look at how many food items there are with added sugar in them, its no wonder so many of us are in adult onset diabetes - peanut butter without sugar is pretty good, has its own sweetness and once you get used to it (or rather, UN-USED to the sugar added variety) you prefer it.

Kenny, having just read the wikipedia entry you posted, I now know that vegemite was named by a "sheilah".
I may never stop laughing.
LMH, let me know what you think I'd suggest a thin scraping on toast to start with. It's a pretty confronting taste

Just right David I knew I could count on you to weigh in here
But how do you think it will taste in a chocolate shell? I'm going to try it, I've set my mind on it now, lol!

Well, good heavens! Kraft is connected to Vegemite? And there is an urban legend surrounding the stuff, too? Not only is Brewer's Yeast a versatile ingredient - it can get pots boiling with Customs if one tries to smuggle it into the country - depending on who is telling the story, I guess.
Thanks for the education, Melly and Kenny. Now Kraft cheese is also on my list of things I won't put into my mouth. Maybe Vegemite is the reason that Kraft cheeses now taste like soap to me? It's being snuck into the milk vats so that more American children can have rosy cheeks? Hey! Stranger things have happened.
lol, I don't know. Kraft bought vegemite a few years ago and then they tried to market some weird yellowy-grey stuff called "cheeseymite" which was a mixture of vegemite and something that was meant to approximate cheese....I think that was what they intended to introduce to the American market. It didn't take here or there.
My threads just get weird, don't they? Weirder and weirder and weirder....lol!!!!

I knew I would come in here and get a good laugh! Yes as an American I have my bad eating habits and vegemite sounds weird, but I'll try anything once. Sending you all love and support!

DEVILED HAM????? Jilly, you ate deviled ham? I have never, ever met anybody in my lifetime who ate deviled ham. This is exciting. What does it taste like? Can you compare it to vegemite? Reece's? Tuna noodle casserole with canned peas (undrained).
Ooooh, another fun thing for me to try encapsulating in chocolate! Is this the same thing as spam?

Really??? Boo hoo. They are my favorite. I have to eat gluten free so when someone is eating cake I can eat a Reese's instead. You can send them to me if you want!!
lol, men at work. Haven't heard that for a while!
I'd happily send them to you NLG but my daughter has a sweeter tooth than I and she has claimed them. But I'll send you some chocolate covered vegemite and devilled ham after I have made it

Ok, I admit I am the peanut butter cup addict and I don't eat them very often (I know you have heard that one before, but I am different than all the rest) My taste buds wonder what the heck, she can eat peanut butter cups, then wash them down with cultured veggies and powdered, fermented green drink. I would be the one that would also eat the Vegemite.
I love that you are engaging and relishing life YAY!!!!! It is a fabulous world
LOL...you people are soooo funny...not worrying about the storm now...laughing to hard. I love being in this family and Mell they let you out for a while today?? ...took the old lady neighbor and her cat in? Love you all (((((hugs)))))
Ooooooooo, my. I have to go eat a bowl of raspberries just to wash the idea of yeast, beer, black goo, tuna with wet peas, and now fermented green powdery liquid to go with it. ewwwwwwwwwwwwww. Peanut butter cups - that sounds good with raspberries. The rest of the stuff mentioned? Well, live and let live comes to mind for me with some of it. I love the scrape on, scrape off method of eating black goo that David brought up. And thanks, Melly, for helping Jerry getting his mind off the hurricane that's coming. Prayers, Jerry.
Mmm processed foods. Kidding. The north american diet is full of them :)! I've just become consumed with juicing and health (at least it is a step in the right direction toward developing interests) I take my PH level every morning, and I started a food journal. I am realizing that I am not eating very healthy!!
I admire that you are making your own money and becoming part of the world again.
Grateful to be I need to drink that green powder- it is sitting in my cupboard I can't bear the thought of drinking it although I know I should!!!!
The only green powdery stuff I've ever put in my mouth has been Kool-Aid. I admire all of you out there who can drink green powdery stuff and black goo in the interest of good health.
In case you haven't heard; here in America we have an epidemic called OBESITY. Many are gluttons and addicted to sugary foods. Sugar addiction Rates higher on the addiction list than drugs and alcohol. The majority of our food supply is GMO and deadly. Very sad.
I work in the weight loss field so feel I can speak on the matter from a front row seat. Not only are people poor eaters, but they are just not smart about their bodies, how they work or how what goes into them affects their health.
So, be smart and don't adopt the American diet. America is a great place, and has done many wonderful things. I love America and am very blessed to call this home; but our food supply is not one of our crowning achievements, by a long shot.
Perhaps all the sugar pumped into everything to help hide the cardboard taste following the fats removed from food has something to do with that sugar issue? Or the pesticides, herbicides, steroids, and whatever else we've sprayed on and injected into our food and water sources? Regardless, I'll be eating peanut butter cups and running my asparagus through the dishwasher before I eat it. Grin.
First Things First... you sound great! You sound very excited and hopeful about moving forward and seem to have lots of plans you're feeling confident about. Now ... as far as that candy LOL Americans love those!! If you think they are sickly sweet, then when Americans crumble them into their ice cream you probably won't be joining the party. Well, honestly those orange packages aren't high on my list of favorites wither. wither? must be peanut butter on the computer keys lol.
I like chocolate and peanut butter on their own ALOT!!!!! I mean ALOT!!!! Thanks for sharing. Glad you're doing well with your plans. ((hugs)) TT

When was powdered green drink mentioned? At first I thought you were referring back to my "soylent green" comment, lol! Surely it hasn't come to that! But you must mean something else like powdered seaweed or something of that nature.
Sadly blessed, we adopt more and more of that type of diet as the days go by. I do know that I can't drink American-made soft-drinks because you use high fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar and when I drink them I feel angry and exhausted all at the same time (like the result of a sugar-high but much much more intense). It's slowly being introduced here instead of cane-sugar which makes zero sense considering how much sugar we grow.
Well, I'm sure you don't personally manufacture soft drinks or add the corn syrup, lol! My daughter and I both have very strong reactions to things like gluten, MSG and the like so most processed foods and even cheese-flavoured snacks etc are off the menu for us. I would dearly love to live somewhere with healthy untouched soil and water and just grow my own everything! Even the fruits and vegetables in the stores are weird, they seem to be suffering from giganticism and have no flavour and I'm guessing few nutrients.
I used to make my own chocolate treats, I would buy organic dates and apricots, grind them into a paste and roll them in organic dark chocolate. I might make some of them this weekend instead of chocolate covered devilled ham and vegemite lol. They sound more enjoyable.
Right , now, back to my coffee and black goo on toast, I'll need my energy for an afternoon of GETTING THINGS DONE!!!
