Awareness is the beginning step towards guided action. As you continue attending meetings, reading the literature, learning the steps and doing healthy things that are for you and you alone and doing something for others that they can't do for themselves, the less you'll desire pain/pleasure and the more you'll enjoy the benefits of peace and serenity in your life. Daily gratitude and assets lists, the Serenity Prayer, doing something kind like picking up trash in your neighborhood without letting anybody else know you've done it or smiling at a sales clerk for no other reason than maybe they are having a hard time in life, too, can all help to adding more peace to your life.

I knew better too at times while living with my ex, I wasnt aware of the consequences but I knew I wasnt living the right way, I wasnt bringing my children up in a good environment and not only because of his drinking but because I was obsessed with him and couldnt take my eyes off him.

I know better today today, I know me, my defects, I can look at myself today, its not as terrifying as I thought it would be, I have tools now that help me think better about me, others, life, the past, today, the future. Keep on trucking, you are getting there fast.x

Knowing better is only part of the growth...it is the practice of the doing better that helped a lot.   "This a walk program not a talk program" the elders use to say all the time and it took time to get it.  We have a slogan that helped much.   "Think" to me means actually taking the time to think it out before acting it out.  The difference between reacting and responding.  When I don't think I react and when I do think I can respond...the outcomes are very often very very different and with responding I am usually better of with the consequences.   Another thing that went away was the beating myself up after I did what it was that wasn't part of my value system.   Keep coming back looking...you're growing and you're going to like who you become.    (((((hugs))))) smile

LU, I do that all the time. I comfort myself that even saints in the bible have their self-confessed thorns in the side that they can't rid themselves of. But they keep at it day after day.

And that is what I do. Keep doing that day after day, one day at a time, I look back sometimes and realize how much has changed. Hopefully you can too!

Kenny
