New to Al Anon... at my first meeting someone told me that maybe I was getting in the way of God and he had stepped up the problems for my daughter because she wasn't listening... really helped me... does anyone know where this quote comes from so I can read it? Thanks
I don't know of that quote, but I have heard versions of this perspective. I have had experiences in my own life where it appeared I wasn't listening, so I got whacked upside the head a few times, it seems, before I heard my HP's message
Hi and welcome to MIP! There are 3 daily readers, Courage to Change, One Day at a Time and Hope for Today, it sounds like something I have read in each of these books. There are so many great al-anon books that helped me to grow and learn. Another good book is "Getting Them Sober" by Toby Rice Drews. Keep coming back and getting to the face to face meetings. Thanks... it put my head on straight.. I haven't gotten into reading my 4 books much yet.. really don't know how to sit down and focus but meetings are a life saver
I don't think of it as my HP stepping up my problems because I'm not listening - more like, my problems are increasing because i'm not paying attention to them - imagine the bathtub overflowing and flooding the floor; I hear the water dripping on the floor but I ignore it, the water drips, starts to come out under the door, the floor gives way with tub falling into the cellar, water logged wood, water flooding the dirt floor basement, muddy water loosening the foundation, house caving in.... etc. Now, instead of having a little water to mop off the bathroom floor, my house needs replacing - because I didn't pay attention.
I've heard talk about getting out of God's way though, which to me means for me to stop trying to handle something that isn't mine to handle.
