One Day At A Time (the little blue book) - MAY 8

MAY 8

Among the many gifts we are offered in Al-Anon is freedom. When we are new in Al-Anon, we are prisoners of our own confusion and despair. Working with the program offers us release as we learn to understand the true nature of our situation. the gifts of Al-Anon are not without a price tag; freedom, for example, can only be achieved by paying the price we call "acceptance." If we can accept the First Step, we are set free from the need to control the alcoholic. If we can surrender to God's guidance, it will cost us our self-will, so precious to us who have always thought we could dominate. it is up to us to decide whether freedom from our despair is worth all this. Most of us believe it is.

Today's Reminder

Success with the Al-Anon program demands that we think, honestly and in depth, about our attitudes, evaluating our words and actions. When the attitudes change from hostility to forgiveness, from violence to quiet acceptance, our words and actions follow along.

"Freedom has many facets, but mostly it releases us from much that has been troubling and defeating us. We pray for this release into freedom."

Thanks WTI I agree completely---changed attitudes have changed my responses .

I must add that could not wave a wand to change them, I had to seriously work the alanon program in order to reap the benefits

You're welcome
I cut and pasted it from another post from years past so I can't take the credit
Also my sponsor suggests it
And then I heard a woman in a mtg share that this book is more directive than HFT and CTC
Don't know if anyone can share any experience on that

When i post daily readings it helps me and it helps me give back

We also read it at my noontime mtg

Enjoy this beautiful weather everyone!
Thank God I am learning I can't control others
And thank God I have literature that validates principles

I love the readings in this book, Its a little old fashioned at times, I think it was written a long time ago but its so wise. C2c seems a little more modern an updated version. Hope for today has lots of readings for adult children, it speaks to the child within quite a lot. Just my opinion on them, I use all 3 and I get something out of all of them. Its lashing where I am but you enjoy your sunny day.x
