The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
well I'm still working my program far away from Al Anon meetings. But nevertheless I am changing my behaviors and attitudes through keeping up the work.
And HP does it such ways, that here in my remote area, I also came across the issue of alcoholic disease and it's partner: co-dependence.
Now, in case you don't remember , i live in a remote asian country. Have been with in a relationship with my A in the past years, and recently broken up. Some fog has lifted and taken the chaos out of my life in an instant. I'm not healed, for that matter, I am a co-dependent, and I always have to continue my program. But I also see people around me suffering from similar effects of alcohol. And a community mobilizer ( young members of community, educated at some level, aware of community's problems, and trained to raise awareness in community groups that are mainly illiterate, working women, with not many resources of information, as living in even more remote areas) has approached me today, and asked me if I wanted to join her 1 day soon to come to one community and talk to the women there, about domestic violence which in this country is mainly related to alcohol abuse. well, I think I'm qualified to share with those women, but there is also the language and culture barrier, and I cannot just walk in and talk as if I talk to MIP. sharing private life and talking in general is not very openly practiced here. But I want to go and give a general idea about how alcohol influences not only body, but also spirit and mind. This concept is not at all known here, they treat alcohol as if it is an open wound. Plaster or balm on top of it, and it will heal in a few days. you get the idea.
So my call to the old timers or any other Al anon group leader for some share of knowledge or experience: any input or idea on how to bring forward or introduce Al Anon in a nutshell?? I only have a few months left here, but if i could sow a little Al anon seed in this community, it could mean a lot to certain women, for suicide and homicide rate is very high due to the confusion of the rages of alcohol.
Not an old timer or a leader but I suggest you go to alanons official website and get some of the literature, its printed in lots of languages, leaflets and just for today cards, very cheap. You could see if there are any podcasts of speakers on you tube. What an opportunity, good luck.x
el-cee hit it right on Tortuga and I listen to you doing the right thing here...bringing what it is that you already know...your story. That is all we can do in program; share what are experiences have been, what we have found out and how it is for us now. Can you feel your HP directing you? This is really frontier stuff and it is amazing again that alcohol has gotten way out there before you. I am now praying that what ever you bring there will be a good seed to plant. I have helped to found meetings in places where there was only alcoholism and the cry for relief from the family. That cry for help showed me that they had the courage and the strength to carry on and change the things they could. See if there are any English reading people there and let me know if some daily readers for the community would be welcomed please. Let go and let God work this thru you obviously "you're it". (((((hugs)))))
What worked for me when I first got into Al-Anon was the simple easy to remember 1st steps and slogans...3Cs, Steps having a Higher Power and the fellowship.
