The FIVE C's

I was talking to my sponsor last night about a few issues I'm having: namely the fact that my AH signed up for a dating website and how I snooped to find out about it.

We talked about ME and MY behavior obviously and my responsibilities to myself, etc.

She said that many years ago her sponsor had all sponsees do a 5 C exercise.  They had to jot down anytime they experienced the 5 C's themselves and here they are:

1.Control

2.Complain

3.Compare

4.Condemn

5.Criticize

I asked her if I and to do this, LOL!  No, she just told me to be more aware and to maybe make a mental note.  One thing I didn't think about asking was: what about our thoughts?  I know I do all those things in my thoughts.  I have been known to walk around the house muttering the word "a-hole" more times than I care to admit.  So, I wanted to open up this topic to the boards and see what everyone else feels about it.  Personally, I love the idea.  It's a way for me to have more awareness and then for me to develop habits that counter these character defects, attitudes, etc.

Yes, I like that a lot. And I have to be extra careful, I'm much more passive/aggressive. So a lot of things stay in my thoughts and sneak out through my actions, rather than yelling them down the hall at AW or anybody else.  Yeah, I'm the king of muttering "A-hole" or a few other choice expletives!!

Depending on your HP, you may find some guidance from Matthew 5:27-30:

27 You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery.[a] 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

There is a lot of figurative and parable speaking in this, but the gist is that what you think is the same as what you do.  Eventually it becomes that anyway.  And it doesn't just apply to adultery, it applies to everything, including these 5Cs I think.

Take what you like, leave the rest!

Kenny

This really is helpful. I also like how your counselor is helping u to stick to you and your life and not the A's. It takes lots of practice not to get into the A's business and concentrate our our own things.

I stop negative thots in my head, won't allow them. As far as calling an A names etc. I remember it is the disease I hate, not the person.

hugs,debilyn

This comes under the subject and recovery work which I did with my sponsor also about self awareness and change.  It was one thing to know about myself and the other requirement was to change what could be changed.   Of course conversation with my Higher  Power asking for help to stop any of the 5 Cee behaviors is necessary for me cause I can't think my way out of it with the same brain I use to get in it.  Right?  I like post such as these because this is about "a do program" and a "walk the talk" program.  Grateful...Mahalo (((((hugs))))) smile

That sounds like a big piece of information you just found out about your AH.  I think anyone would have a reaction to that.  I get not to complain, criticize, etc.  But just want to say that I think it's entirely fair, and in fact sane, to say to oneself, "This is not the kind of behavior I am okay with."

Hugs.
