Doing good things for me in the New Year, please share what you are doing for u

Hi everyone - I have been trying to lose weight this new year. I started with goals that were in five pound increments. I am finding that eating out is not easy and I have to start over a couple of days. I am not beating myself up, just one day at a time.

I have also let go of a couple of friends, I am finding more peace as these friends were toxic. I don't think I realized how toxic until they were gone. Another good thing for me.

Wanted to hear some other experiences and how you are doing good things for yourself this new year.

Thanks

I slowly removed myself from my best friend of 20+ years about 3 years ago. Some days I still miss her but she was toxic to me and my recovery. These days I just try  to do things that I WANT to do. Whether working on a project, being with family or friends, or just reading or watching tv. I do not feel the pressure that I used to feel to do everything, be everything, for the people in my life. I suppose this could be classified as selfish, but I am happier and more comfortable in my own skin living like this. I could never  have done this without this program.

Good Morning

I want to start losing weight so bad but haven't gotten on the band wagon as of yet. Now that I don't have the anxiety I once had I think I replaced it with food. Not good but it works for now. I guess I can start a diet by just cutting out chocolate....oh do I love chocolate .

I'm happy for you that you took on the challenge of weight loss...not easy is it. I will root you on and maybe lose the 5 lbs with you. Oh and you started taking the toxic food AND people of life.....good for you.

Take care and keep me posted on the weight loss

((( hugs )))

I believe that if I take care of my insides, then  the outside will take care of itself.  My New Years resolution Included:

Upping my Alanon Meetings-  Doing 90 Meetings in 90 Days
Increasing my 11th Step to 45 minutes a day
Doing a 10th Step every night
Discarding at least one item from my desk or  book case  each  day
So far  I have been able to keep it.

Oooh, Betty, I'm going to adopt the discard one item idea- from my desk plus one from my book-case plus one from my wardrobe! Great idea.

At the moment I'm being sociable (with other mums, family etc) even when I think I don't feel like it. It does me wonders to interact with other people outside of this home! Also a daily walk/ bike-ride. (Good for my state of mind as well as my weight).

My one resolution for the year was to have more fun. Thus far, I think I've stuck to it. I tend to get very, very serious. Laughter and fun is an important change to make for myself this year.

Taking a stained glass class. Attending estate sales as I am looking for certain items to decorate the interior of our new home. Stared refinishing the furniture I purchased (4years ago)for rehabbing with chalk paint. Exercise - 20 minute "walkies" with the dog three times a day. Including CAL books in my daily reading rotation. Only letting positive people in my life. Daily journaling, including a gratitude page every day.

Thanks for all the shares!

Hey Cathy
I have some great news for you. You most certainly do not need to go without chocolate! :)
Eliminate the "junk" chocolate though. Find the highest percent of cocoa. I like to treat myself to the dark chocolate covered acai berries and pomegranate. Cocoa is healthy in moderation ;) like many other things. I also put cocoa powder in my shakes(which also consist of almond milk, ice and a banana) to get that chocolate taste. Mmm yummy lol. This girl here has shedded 25 unwanted yucky pounds in the last 6 months. Every day is a new day. Working on the mind, body and spirit takes time and patience. One day at a time. Its about progress right?! That is my focus for the year. Progress. Paying attention to how far I have come and not how much farther I have to go.

great thread Mercedes:

I am upping my face to face meetings; journaling more consistently; decluttering (love Betty's idea of one item/day also), trying to keep my focus on the present and......more running!!

I have been working out at the gym consistently and not eating anything fried which I got into a bad habit of doing with school. I am still trying to nail down my eating and sorting through things in my closet is next on my list. Great thread!

I'm trying to get the Legislature to act on a legislative proposal I first introduced in 1996..."Alcohol management or "Anti-enabling Legislation".  First concern was how much will this cost.  Response? The debt is getting deeper the longer we spend on the telephone and ...We will never amortize the debt with current management. Other response?  This is really well thought out and complete only we cannot  do it here. It has to be done on the mainland.  In the interim as we all know the overall debt...money and lives and other is skyrocketing!!   Send your HP's to Hawaii for this legislative session and tell it/him/her to bring a whip!! LOL.  Happy New Year...Hauoli Makahiki Ho.   (((((hugs))))) smile

This is my year!  I believe it!

This year I am going to lose all the weight I've gained over the last three years.  I want to feel healthier and be able to recognize myself again. I've lost 3 lbs so far.  I consider that a good start.  I'm doing it by removing carbs and processed foods. I notice that don't have that bloated stuffed feeling I once had.

I reupped my yoga classes.  I begin this again this week.  I tried it for the first time a few months ago. It's been a great de-stressor.  I'm trying to drink more water each day.  I'm making retaining my health a priority.

I purged a lot of stuff from my clothes closet and invited a friend over to take what she liked.  My resolution is to try to keep it neat and leave space for the clothes I'll be wearing when I'm thinner. That empty space is reserved for that purpose and will be motivation.

I want to work toward being on that beach in Hawaii in February of next year.

I want to learn something new - a new skill, sport, craft.. something.  It'll be fun!  No rush.  I'll know it when I find it.

There are some life changing plans too and I think the things I've mentioned above will help me keep me grounded and help me maintain my serenity while I make those leaps.

Thanks for the fun topic!   TT
