I spent Christmas with my exAH and his parents....

overall it went good, I spent a few days around my exAh and his parents and I made the best of it. I went to a meeting with my old al-anon home group as soon as I arrived into town and it set me up to be strong in my program while spending Christmas with my children and ex family, who is currently dry, but not working a program. We were all respectful and made the best of it for the kids. I was reminded why I am divorced, but stayed as detached as I could and actually enjoyed dinner and games. I have no family and no where else to go and wanted to spend my off time with my kids, so we all shared Christmas together and I am glad I did it. Thanks to al-anon I was able to be focused and handled it better than ever before. Sending everyone love and support!

BF:

Thank you for your post; it sounds like you had a peaceful time of it which is great.  My very soon to be ex is taking our kids to see his family today for the weekend and all of us are on edge--kids, ex, outlaws, me.  There has never been a time that he has brought kids with out me and I have traditionally been the mediator for strained family relations and coordinator and controller of every situation!  What a great opportunity for me to put my tools into play.  I will be thinking of your example WITH your ex and family as I practice this weekend WITHOUT mine. :)

In years passed I sent my kids and found somewhere else to go, but this year I sent my 5 year old to live with him to finish out the school year and I wanted to spend time with her. It actually went really well. In the past I spent Christmas alone or with friends and enjoyed that as well. It is far harder obviously to be in the midst of my qualifier's space and life, but I worked my program and set myself up to succeed.

((((BF))))

I'm Sure your Kids Loved it :) My Grandkids are Dealing with Resently Split Parents (Last Week) and All I Pray is the Parents Can Be Parents & Not Enemys to each other! It is So Helpful to the Children when everyone can just Get along! Even if Just for a Little While! KUDOS'S to You for Making that Choice, and Step & Working Your Program so it could all Happen

You Give me HOPE for My Grandkids, and I"m Grateful :)

Love & Prayers

Jozie

Nice to hear you in such a good place after the holidays.  We tend to be so quick to point out our slips in this program but not nearly as quick to share our progress. Recovery is such a gift to me because every year brings more faith and skills to keep serene and grateful at the holidays no matter what's going on around me. Sometimes a visit to where we've been (like your exah and his family) is best evidence of how far we've come. Glad you didn't get weighed down by past events; stayed present and had a good holiday with your children. Thanks for sharing your success.  (((hugs))) TT
