So happy to find this board!!

I'm a "newbie" to the board.but an "oldie" in living with alcoholics.  Been through 3 interventions with my mom, and married an alcoholic 17 years ago.  I apparently learned a lot.right?no  Basically, the two closest people to me are both alcoholics and we also have four boys to raise.  Mom and Husband have always been "functioning" alcoholics..I hate that term, btw.  Just adds to the guilt factor.  So.that's it in a nutshell.  Thankful that I found all of you for support.hoping I can do the same for you:)))

Welcome to Miracles in Progress SCGRL

You are not alone.  It has been said there is no such thing as a" functioning alcoholic"no.    The AMA has recognized Alcoholism as a progressive fatal disease over which we are powerless.

We who live with the disease become affected and need a program of recovery of our own.  Alanon is that program.    Please search out alanon Face to Face meetings (Held in most communities)  and attend.  The answers to all that you find troubling can be  found in the support, sponsorship and the Steps that are the tools of alanon recovery.

Keep coming back here and sharing the journey

Aloha SCGRL and welcome to the board/family also.  SC has some great AFG (Al-Anon Family Groups) so you are surrounded by membership who knows about this disease and knows how to recovery from the affects of it.  If you're not a member yet (and you sound like one) the white pages of your local telephone book has the hotline number for the AFG in your area...What you learn is free and priceless.    Keep coming back ((((hugs)))) smile

Welcome home.  For someone who lives with those suffering this disease you have finally found a place where everyone here understands in one form or another as we too have loved ones suffering it as well.

No matter if they are in the active stage or the recovering stages of their disease you have the right to take care of you and the effects it has had upon you through the years.  Often our thinking and behaviors have become distorted and this program helps us realize how to live healthy and find answers for our well being.

We also have meetings here on this site to tide you over until you find your face to face meetings.  I heard you mention 4 kids too, check to see if the places you go include Al-ateen for them.  Amazingly the kids learn how to unlearn bad behaviors more quickly then us who've lived with it most of our lives.

Welcome home and find a seat we're all here for you, just keep coming back.
