My recovering abf invited me to his meeting this week. He was receiving his two year chip. This was my first time at the meeting. It's an open one but I've really never had any interest in going with him. I have my own program and my own meetings and I'm glad to have the house to myself while he's gone. You know... ME time! :)
What a nice group they turned out to be; very welcoming and a few told me how much it means to have someone's encouragement and support. Abf got to speak a bit about his progress and thanked the group for the kind things they said about him. He spoke with a lot of humility and gratitude. He thanked me for my love and support. The chair asked him to read how it works and you know that part about standing at the crossroads has always gotten to me. It makes me think of the people that I love who are still out there using who haven't surrendered and I always tear up at that part. This time was no exception but it was ok to feel.
We chatted with a few people afterwards and I jokingly took credit for sponsoring the abf until I realized one guy thought I might be serious. The guy was respectful and polite and finally I broke into a smile and admitted I was just kidding. I did say with pride though that I'm in Alanon and that abf has been wearing out my Alanon books. The guy responded that he thought it was good to be able to express feelings.
I later thanked my bf for inviting me to be a part of his sober anniversary. He said he was glad I wanted to come. I told him I thought it was time to see what THOSE AA PEOPLE are up to in those meetings We laughed. I told him... I'm proud to know you.
Thanks for letting me share with you. TT
