hey Tiff

What I did was surf the posts, if I coudln't find anyone face to face which I never could, I just read the posts, checked out the people whom I could relate to and picked on that fit me the closest and asked

Now don't get hurt if they can't take you on, many people , if they say "no" it usually is b/c they can't to you justice or they have stuff going on in their lives and just cannot take you, so don't give up if you get turned down by your first pick....Being a sponsor is a huge responsibility that a lot of us have done and its not to be taken lightly.....  Good luck smilesmile

I found mine in my face to face meetings which worked best for me to have a wise old sponsor meet with me weekly face to face to go through the steps. Sending you love and support!

Hi Tiff, just wanted to encourage you too keep going to face to face meetings and be patient. It took me 6 months of being in program, going to 2-3 meetings a week before I found someone I wanted to ask to be my sponsor. Personally it is usually best to find someone you can meet with face to face, but you can always ask folks on here to be a sort of pseudo-sponsor. I'm sure others will come on and give you more feedback, but I do hope you will be patient and maybe ask your Higher Power to put that right sponsor in front of you.

Woah Tiff, slow down there champ!

Recovery is not a race. There's no 'the quicker I do this, this and that, the sooner I'll be better.'

Finding a sponsor is an important step in recovery but it's only effective when it comes naturally. As al-anon's we are always forcing solutions (sound familiar?) this keeps our insanity going.

Just relax, be patient, scope out different meetings, different people. Have someone in mind before you actually ask them.

It took me 2.5 years to find a sponsor.

I've had great sponsorship from he start and then I wasn't ready...It really is true when the student is ready the teacher appears.   Like others have said...I got ready by taking my time the second time around...first time around?  I got fired!!  Take your time...interview membership...sit with them and listen to their recovery.  Then ask.   ((((hugs)))) smile
