Yesterday was not a good day when it came to my job. I was not invited to the meetings and was out of the loop. Next thing I know two of the people in the meeting comes to me and asks me to start looking for a consultant then a new employee for MRP. Inventory is a mess and needs correction asap. Well mine and my-coworker's job is inventory besides Purchasing ( What I do ).
My first thought....I'm getting old and they are looking to replace me. OMG...what am I going to do. I'm to old to start looking for work after 35 years with one company. I was sick last night about it.
Well my boss comes into my office this morning and proceeded to let me no I'm NOT being replaced but does want somebody new to help with the day to day data input and inventory control..... and will eliminate it from me so I can do my main job better. Costing, vendor negotiations, sourcing and followup. I also do all the IT work here.
I feel better. I asked they just give me 5 years and I'm gone...lol He said all management here is over 60 and new blood needs to come in now so your company will continue to thrive when we retire.
But if something does happen I'm OK because I have HP in my back pocket..
Thank you for letting me vent
(((( hugs ))))

I had to quit my full time job two years ago. The management was bad in all directions. Their idea of an end of the year treat was to go to a strip show. I did not go of course.
But i am fine now... with lots of help I was able to re-invent myself.
The management of your firm seems good- they have explained things, and the reason they are shuffling people around. Change is a shock sometimes. But you managed to get your head around it as it happened. Good on you...!
WOW....with this screwed up economy and company "loyalty" to employees going "bye bye" I can relate....I sooo can relate to your fears and they , to me, were not irrational b/c this happens..
I am soo glad that this company valued you....35 years????? WOW!! didn't know that existed anymore
My longest stretch at a company was 9 years.....company was going down and they had to downsize...the owner did my job...she never replaced me...
I've never been fired...Just laid off due to recessions but thats it.....
That is why I do freelance pub. bookkeeping on my own, now..I got tested and certified by several high end recruiters when I was working for them but now I have my own business so thats what I do...I got tired of job losses due to recessions or company just bellying up...
Freelancing for more than 1 company kinda is protection for me...
SO glad you were not let go....

Hi, Cathy. Considering you haven't had all that much time to regroup from this weekend's trial - I can certainly understand why this new set of challenges that you didn't see coming - would be unsettling if not downright scary. Life seems to filled with opportunities to practice our program with others who find themselves in the same boat and take turns rowing our boat to new shores. (I'd suggest we're in a motor boat but with gas prices so high...)
Thanks for being so candid about your feelings of insecurity about your job. It really helped me feel less alone with my own feelings of vulnerability at work right now. And you're right.... hp's got us!! Projecting is a big defect of mine and when other things are not going well, my thoughts are off to the races and I'm that last place horse on her way to the glue factory. Silly me! Thanks for sharing. Glad it was business as usual for you! TT
