My name is Slogan_Jim and I am a grateful member of al-anon.
This weekend I attended my local regional conference. Unfortunately due to finances, our area will not be having a conference next year :(. That's ok though. One day at a time.
After speaking with a friend on the committee, this year the number of registrations as well and hotel booking were down so the committee may lose some money.
I noticed a very good portion of members are members that are aged 50 plus. Meaning their working lives are coming to an end and they may be living on a fixed income now or not working at all. As the older generation disappears, with a lack of younger members we'll start to see meetings close, and other conferences cancelled.
Jim I believe world over that is probably a trend and hopefully temporary because I have yet to see anything work as well as Al-Anon for supporting the family, friends, and associates of alcoholics get and stay sane. The conventions are expensive and cost do not go down even here. We keep doing what works for us and changing the things we can. ((((hugs))))
IN NYC we have members as young as 20 and as old as 70 in my meetings The over 50 crowd stil lhave over 15 years of wroking life and more money than the younger group so I beleive we are a sound organization.
