Observing scared, sabotaging behaviors

I've mentioned in response to another person's share that I've been going through some upheavals at my job lately. There are a select number of employees who've taken it badly and are acting out.

I'm real grateful for my Al-Anon program, or I'd be jumping in and joining the crazy dance they're doing: passive-aggressive posts on Facebook, and some of them are purposely sabotaging work - refusing to do certain required things or doing things in such a way that it creates other problems. Oh, and gossiping and trying to rally others to their woes.

Logical person in me watches all of this and says "wow - don't these people realize they're just digging their own graves?" Another part of me thinks "Oh gee... THAT's the worst you can do? If you think this is annoying me, it's not. No big deal for me cleaning up your messes because I know this isn't going to go on forever."

I'm also making sure to MMOB (mind my own business!) These staff members are not under my supervision, so they're not my people to discipline. I'm also trying to stay FACTUAL when I report issues to their supervisor and my boss instead of harping about personalities. I just say what didn't get done, report why it didn't get done, and let it go at that. Even though it's crystal clear to me that things aren't getting done because these people think they're playing some super awesome "stick it to the man!" game.

I am so glad I'm not in their shoes. I truly do wish they'd stop feeling so scared. They're really just creating self-fulfilling prophecies with their behavior. If they just did what was expected and didn't act out, there'd be no problems. I'm glad for the program giving me the opportunity to try and see things from another person's perspective and realize these people are just scared and acting out because they're living in fear. I've done plenty of stupid things myself while under the influence of my fear.

I am also glad I have Al-Anon as a place to come and safely vent any frustrations I do have around the situation... and then sit and reason things out if I'm getting overwhelmed!

I just keep praying for these people in the meantime. I hope life gets less scary for them.

I, too, am thankful for the program and noticing the invitations to join the "crazy dance".  Isn't life so much easier with program work?  Great post.
