Home Run - Movie

This isn't an AA deal however it was interesting to watch, .. very honestly I had NO idea how Celebrate Recovery works.  That part was pretty educational, .. I really enjoyed learning something new.

What I really liked about the movie is the depiction of alcoholism as a disease and the victim mentality that goes with it.  The special snowflakeness of it all .. it's all about this guy and nothing to do with the fact he creates this destruction of his own life.

It's PG, and of course everything is wrapped up in 90 min .. it was worth the view.

Hugs P :)

Pushka,

I am involved in both Celebrate Recovery and Al Anon and enjoy both for different experiences. I had the opportunity to view the movie a year again when it was still in the editing stages and thought it was very well done.  I have to say I was skeptical prior to the viewing and was pleasantly surprised at the quality.  Great endorsement!

I just finished reading the book, which interestingly enough was written based on the movie. My ex-as-of-yesterday is a rebelling RA. He recently relapsed big time and threw me to the ground the other night. He is not just drinking but getting completely out of his mind drunk. And he gets angry when he gets drunk. I am 7 months pregnant. The book REALLY hit home for me. I wish he would finally give in and be here for our child. There is so much he is going to miss out on that he has missed with his first son as well. This is my first child and I had a small amount of hope that this would change him when we got the surprise, and it seemed to for a while. It was very emotional for me to read about this character doing and acting exactly like my ex and to know how difficult it is for everyone involved in these situations, and it really does take years and years for them to realize what they're missing IF they ever do. I just wanted my son's father to be a part of his life...

Personally I love Celebrate Recovery.  The program seems to help my heart more than Al-Anon these days.  They have a wonderful 12 steps version for people who have been abused mentally, physically and emotionally.  Unfortunately there are no meetings around here so I just do the online ones and read their books.
