scared every time he walks out the door

Been with my verbally abusive AB for 2 years and although his drinking has slowed down extremely im still terrified of what could happen and find myself scared every time he walks out the door which is a lot because we have no transportation and he walks everywhere. Ive been diagnosed with PTSD just from him because hi verbally abusive rants can become pretty bad for hours at a time till I get angry enough to hit him. So we have been doing these fights for 2 years, and thats why im scared everytime he walks out that door. Im a very emotional person so detaching is hard almost impossible for me. Everyone always says you cant control him hes going to do it when he wants ...just want to get over my fears

I do understand that terrible dread and irrational fear. Violence on either party's part does not work and just causes many other problems.  Many alanon booklets talk about this  and acknowledge that it is a direct result of living with this terrible disease of alcoholism.

There is hope and help for this condition.--- Alanon Face to Face meetings. It is at these meetings that I discovered how to break the isolation caused by this disease, and learn new alanon tools that taught me to respond and not react. I also had to learn to stay in the moment and the day and not to project terrible outcomes.
I urge you to check out the alanon meetings in your community This way when you begin to feel as you do now you can go to a meeting or call an alanon member for support.

We must reach out and accept help You are worth it

I can definitely relate to the fighting and dread.  I think that alcoholics in full bloom are very difficult to live around. Al anon can certainly help you with the fear, the temptation to argue and more.  I think it can also give you much support. For so many of us the alcoholism takes up our entire lives.

Another thing that will help is to get a hold of the book Getting them Sober by Toby Rice Drew.

Maresie.
