He Wasn't Fired, He Resigned

What a relief! How stupid I am to think that you would be fired as a financial consultant  when you test 3x over the legal limit to drive during business hours. Thank God my AH called to set the record straight. I was prepared for total devastation or even rage at me but not delusion. When he called, I let him rattle on about how he was so excited about the future since he had resigned from the bank and was going to go into business for himself. That has been a dream of his for a long time, and I have supported him and had total faith that he could make it work but now is NOT the time. Nothing is going to work in his condition. Finally, I told him that I knew what had happened.

I suggested that since he now wasn't working and his insurance coverage is in effect until the end of the month that he go back into the hospital and rehab (we have reached our out of pocket expense for the year so everything would be paid for)and start totally clean and sober if he wants to give this a try. Of course, to him that was me throwing cold water on his new life plan so I got the guilt inducing comment that he had hoped I would be supportive. It didn't work. I told him that I had hoped this would be his wake up call or his "bottom" but I guess not. That was how we left it. I haven't talked to him since.

The higher power works in mysterious ways.

It takes what it takes.

It's interesting to see how things unfold.

I really read your strength in your post.

Thanks for sharing.

Hugs they live in the world of the truth according to them. I am so right there with you, .. not in terms of job loss, .. in terms of delusion and what a court order means and what it doesn't mean.

Stay strong, you are doing sooooo great working your program!! It's the world according to him not the world according to you.

Hugs P :)

when I see examples like this...I am reminded...I am not alone in thinking "WHAT?!"

Too bad the police didn't catch up with him when the job sent them after him. Oh well. Actually, I'm not surprised. His marriage and job are falling apart....my guess would be the psych ward is where he is going to wind up. I know that's scary and sad....but they tell us where ongoing drinking leads all the time in AA - Jails, institutions, and death.

I am glad you have stepped off the denial roller coaster.

Thank you for the reminder that I am not in denial anymore, either! I could totally see my AH doing/saying things like this. Luckily, his job hasn't found out about his drinking problems or DUI yet, because it would be bad. His job requires him to drive(he's in sales) and he'd be putting his job in danger if they found out. Can't tell you how many times I've sat there scratching my head and saying, "What?" and thinking, "It must be me, right, because normal people don't creep around at 5 AM making excuses for their weird behavior!" UGH!

As Rehprof said: CRAZYTOWN......hey, at least you're not the mayor anymore, LOL! Let him have that job.

This reality is almost too much to bear as my one son has the disease of alcoholism. God please take care of him, I set him free for you God to look after him.
