I've been searching the Internet reading posts. I think I'm starting to understand. I never could get why as the victim I needed to do a 12 step program. I feel like I'm just beginning to realize the brainwashing. I've got to keep my priorities straight. Protect my children from my mom's chaos. I've spent so long trying to understand her. Help her. There is no help for her. Ive put her before my own husband and children too much. I want out of this cycle.
That is one of the best justifications for Al-Anon, a 12 step, spiritually based, recovery program that I have heard. I didn't even know the problem was alcoholism when I wandered off of the parking lots early in the morning hours talking to myself and waiting for a space ship to come and get me off the planet earth. I had to learn about alcoholism from the ground zero up. Brain washing...yes, conditioning...yes also, and probably alot of other perspectives also. I am soooooo grateful my HP directed me to Al-Anon...beyond words. Hope you find the hotline number in the white pages of your local telephone book and call as soon as you can and then go just as quickly. Keep coming back ((((hugs))))
I will. Thanks Jerry. I found a group that meets on Sat morning. With three small kids I can't do the late meetings. I have to wait. Uugh. I'm ready to get started.
