Classic Co-Dependent Move

Went to a Co-dependents meeting last night and it was a little fun. They are lighter and focus on detachment from our own obsessive thoughts and worrying and needy people,  which is a good thing. I was reading the book and the whole time I keep thinking (Oh this would work for so and so) lol. Classic example of trying to focus on everyone else instead of me. Hello!!!

I did not realize though that they introduce themselves and then identify them self as Co-dependents.  I was not ready for that, so I was like Hi, I'm ___  and don't know what I am.  I get how intimadating an A does not want to say that in front of a group.  Different progam, but most were from the alcoholic household at some point.

It took me a long time in this program to realize that I did that a lot. I still often catch myself thinking "I wish so and so was here to hear this". Then I know its time for me to wake up and listen to what's being said and stop obsessing again about other people.

I am a work in progress and so are you. LOL I love this program.

Had to giggle, I catch myself doing that all the time. Sometimes I wonder if it will ever just not happen.

The number of times I've read something in a self help or recovery book and ended up reading it out to my partner because I think they need to hear it. I have a rule of thumb now, that says if I think someone else needs to hear it then it's me that needs to hear it. And I know as soon as I have that thought it is a sign that I'm being controlling again and thinking I can change the other person. Funnily enough I've personally found most codependents meeting to be less light than my alanon experiences, which just shows how each meeting is unique and particular to the members that attend!
