lesson learned

I have been a member of Ala -non for only a short time since 2011. Yet I am a grateful member of Ala-non. When I first came here I was A bitter angry person as many of us are because of alcohol or the drug use of people we love. I have taken this program and applied as best I could to my life. For the past 8 months I have been without a job and have floundered because of that fact. The time off reopened many wounds from a life less than perfect. I back slid alot but did try to keep my self together with the tools I learned here and the chatroom interactions. I realized that I needed to trust in a Higher Power to see me through. It's not just me who needs to know this but all of us on this journey. There are two things I have learned for sure there is a God and I'm not Him. As much as i want to think so most days. I have been blessed with a new job better than the last one and I am so grateful for it. The thing I learned that was an eye opener to me is how much we here need each other. Those of us who have been here for some time need to be signs to those newcomers to this place and program we need to show them in our experience there is hope for all of us and to offer our strengths of comfort and caring  to them . We have a great program that offers so much but words only mean something when offered from the hearts of all of us here. There is hope it may take a while we may struggle even more but trust the program to show how to reconnect with ourselves our true selves . Someone so special and cared for. Hard to see sometimes but I I promise we are all special. So now we need to put into action what we've learned and remember we are a sign of hope for someone even if we are still hoping ourselves. It does get better.

You are so right, it can always get better, but we have to work towards that. It is not easy, change usually isn't. But that is when we learn, when things are tough.

I have been here soooo many years. I am very old now...haha I need to be here. Even though I don't have my AH in my life, A's are all around. Plus the things we learn can be used for all kinds of situations.

When I feel down the firs thing i want to do is come  here and ask what people think. I am never disappointed. I don't have to be embarrassed or sound dumb. My life is shaped now from loving an A who's disease took so much from me. Yet through it all I gained so much more.

Yes there are some sorrows, a goal or two I won't get to do. But I did live all my dreams in my life.

Good to see ya here, love, debilyn

Yes I agree totally, I have gone from being lost and despairing to finding not only a place for me in this world but the gift of giving back what I have been given freely, every moment is an opportunity to practice this, I love the saying people show us who they are, I want to show the people who I am too, I am defined now by a power greater than myself,  for me it took many many years of falling down to get right back up and live eat and feel the change, set backs are no longer devastating they are just lifes hurdles that make me stronger, great postx

It's always nice to hear how our Chat Room and our Message Board allows us to grow, become strong, gain trust and and establish bonds of friendships.

I am glad you found us, glad you join us and glad you found a wonderful job. May the pains you endured help you grow strengths, courage and the want to continue on with this wonderful journey.

That's What Friends Are For!

I believe in the First Step, for it urges us to learn in alanon. I have worked this step several times. Smile.
I believe in our 12th Step, because it's just so good to share our esh with gratitude. Onward!

Thanks for sharing , Chef and thanks for all these affirmations that followed.
