My Thanksgiving

I had Thanksgiving at my house yesterday and invited my exAH. I had it later in the day and I had invited my best friend and her baby too, but I was sick and she didn't want to chance her lil guy getting sick. So my 13 year old and I prepared a stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes, candied yams, green bean casserole, corn on the cob, rolls and gravy. My exAH had a job until 5 so we ate around 5:30 and it was great. I didn't have any expectations, but I was pleasantly suprised, he brought no alcohol with him and he stayed and played a couple games with us and we all laughed and had fun. My kids and exAH had Thanksgiving at his parents the day before and he and my 13 year old kept raving about how good everything was at my house and how he could tell I love to cook because it was so good. With all this being said I know not to reattach. I caught myself being suprised he ate so much with us, which usually he drinks dinner and being suprised at his good mood, but I also know it was one night a year and not to raise any of my expectations based on it. It was fun and nice to see this side of him again and it helped me feel good about my recovery and where I am at with it. I thought about inviting his parents, but I still have resentments to work through with them. With exAH atleast we have put everything out on the table, it has made it easier for me to stay friends with him. I had to keep myself in check a couple times knowing I wanted to look ahead, but I quickly told myself to be in the moment. This was the best Thanksgiving I have had in years and I took care of myself through it all.
