Acceptance

Right now I can accept my life as it is.  I have no boyfriend, haven't had one for years. I have looked but I am so busy and have so much going on to find the time to meet someone is impossible.

I have moved out of the alcoholic house I lived in.

I am not working as much as I did and the free time is cherished.  I am also not paying down the bills I have but the sum seems more manageable.

Of course I can accept my life as it is right now it is far more manageable. When my life isn't manageable I get the stick out and start beating myself to a shred and start lamenting.  I make the situation far worse by my over reacting to it.  I fall into victim mode and start comparing my life to others.

I'm coming to discover acceptance is like detachment pretty hard to do under fire.

Now my life is far more manageable I can accept where I am and put down the stick. How much better it would have been for me if I could have done that a lot sooner.

The greatest thing about that post is that you are exactly where you need to be right this second and you are going to be ok without question. Hugs Maresie, what a strong program you are working. Glad you have carved out time for yourself. Thanks for the share :)

Hugs P :)

Obviously I need to practice the tools far more diligently because it isn't on to just work a program when things are going better.  In order to get to better I have to work a stronger program still.

Maresie.

I have had similar realizations at times Maresie...This is when I reflect on things I have read and see I really am living recovery that is described in the big book. It seems you are seeing evidence of really living in recovery as well. This is my favorite quote from the big book page 417:

"And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation -- some fact of my life -- unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake. Until I could accept my alcoholism (in your case other's alcoholism), I could not stay sober; unless I accept life completely on life's terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes."

Maresie,

You know I think we come to our own spiritual awarenesses not one second too soon or too late.  Acceptance can be a beast sometime.  When that moment comes, it is a light that burns brightly within our souls.

Great share,

T
