Hi everyone. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this board, and the board in general for being such a great support. I am moving and don't think I will have internet for a while if at all. To sum up what Al-Anon did for me :
Here is a girl from a A household, that walked in to another A's life when older, having absolutely no clue what I was getting into. After years of abuse, worrying, depression and anxiety, I walked through the doors of Al-Anon....I changed, but my A did not. So I left.
Now, the happy part!!! Years later and many many meetings and learnings under my belt, I met a non A who is the most wonderful man I've ever met... whom I love and trust most dearly. He listens when I voice my boundries, allows me to get mad and voice our differerent opinions and it's met with no anger, no repercusions. He has told me, that he loves it when I stand up for myself and such, becuase it is bringing him back to the way of respect he wants and was raised to have. Sometimes in this world we forget that he says. And in return, he has taught me to relax, to trust, to enjoy some things that I wasn't used to cause of the A's. It's just been a great learning, sharing experience since day one. We have so many interests, and yet our own as well. I never thought a relationship could be like this, so much love, so much respect, and so much happiness. Nope, not perfect, if we were I'd be lying. But there is no such thing as "Normal" or perfect - I have learned that on this board...thank you!!!
We are moving to a log house on 50 acres and we are going to have a farm!!! Dream come true for me...chickens and everything!!!!!! He is great to my son, my son is happy, my parents love him, and he is very good to me, as I am him. Dreamy....
My point to this whole email is that I wouldn't have gotten this AT ALL if it wasn't for Al-Anon or the advice and encourgement to some people on this board. I'd still be sick. I still use boundries, as I did with my mom this week. Saying if she wanted to see me, that is fine, but with such in such in place. Long story there, but she is enabling my A brother. And I didn't want to have that stress this week before moving.
Just wanted to give a little of a happy ending before I left....with tears in my eyes...THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
mslouise, thanks for sharing your great news. Log cabin, 50 acres, CHICKENS! It sounds like a wonderful place to live. You know what they say, it works if you work it! Congratulations and good luck. And please do drop in again when you are able to.
Thank you so very much for your terrific, and inspiring share. I agree,practicing this program, learning to trust and communicate in a grown up fashion is one of the many gifts of the alanon program.
I am so happy that you have followed your dream and have found a loving partner to share your life with.
