Hi. I have just come in from an evening out at a local restaurant with Son, Daughter & Partner to celebrate what would have been my husband, Stephen's 64th birthday (it is now 22.35 in the UK). What a waste! We should have been enjoying retirement by now and doing all sorts of things. But it was not to be - so now me and my (learning disabled) Son have to make the best of our lives without him. But, I don't mean to be depressing. We raised (several) glasses to him, had a lovely evening and resolved to get on with life. I still feel sad but I have to keep reminding myself it is only six weeks since his death. There will be a year of *1st* anniversaries. I reckon the toughest will be in January which should have been our 40th (ruby) wedding anniversary. But - never mind, I'll cope. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and messages, I really appreciate them.
I think my message is, to all of you in early relationships with As is beware; it is a harsh fact but few of them change and, in my experience, they just get worse. Sometimes they do turn their lives around and I salute those who do - but mostly, well ..................
I am so sorry for your loss, and I echo you sentiments expressed to those in early relationships with Alcoholics....I know many people who have never seen the sober times and I've met 2 or 3 who say because they worked their alanon program the alcoholic did have to look at his part and become well.. for me, when I have been in my right mind I realized the odds were not in my favor.
Thank you for being here and thanks for sharing such a new and difficult time... please let us know how you are doing.
Hugs, so sorry for your loss. It's been such a short time and it all takes a lot of time to get through this difficult time. Please continue to come back and keep us updated as to how you are doing.
Sending love and support, P :)

Dear Tish It is good to hear from you on this Bittter sweet day. So glad that you updated us on where you are and I do hope you will continue to share the journey.
I know that atttending alanon meetings and sharing on this Board helped me when my son passed from this dreadful disease after 13 years of sobriety.
