12 Concepts of Service

Any of you guys have some ESH on the 12 Concepts?    I was asked to give a talk on the concepts next month with a focus on 3 and 4.  I have looked through my literature cabinet and it is a challenge to find anything on the concepts.

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tommye

Well, I am not sure, but I just wanted to give you my support... Is there anything in the How Alanon Works book?

No.  Most of our literature has the concepts listed in the back of the books along with the 12 steps and traditions.  I have a pamphlet on the concepts but that is all I could find.   I was hoping that perhaps some of the folks on the board may have some ESH on the concepts to share.

Always good to hear from you YFM.  Thanks for the input.

Hi

I have never attended a meeting that discussed the Concepts!!!

I alwasy thought that the 12 concepts were principles set up to guide the World Service Organiazation and Intergroup in  bringing the message of alanon to the community and the world.

I believe the Steps are guides for my personal life and recovery

The Traditions teach me how to survive and thrive in a group setting

and the Concepts outline these same principles for our Governing Board.

Being able to make decisions on a Group level is handled at a Business Meeting by a vote of the membership.  Participation in this entire process of recovery is a must for recovery.  This means serving on committees, sponsering, attending meetings and living by the tools and steps and slogans

Please let us know what you shared and how it went.

Hi Tommyecat,

Here are a couple of links:

The first is to a al-anon workshops site hosted by batonrouge al-anon.  Down towards the bottom are links to audio from a workshop on the concepts done by Ric B. the executive director of the wso office.

http://www.batonrougealanon.org/al-anon-workshops.html

The second is a link to a blog on the 12 concepts, "Using the Concepts in Our Personal Lives" again by Ric B.

http://www.al-anon.org/members/TheConcepts/

I found them both very good!

Also do you have the book "Paths to Recovery: Al-Anon's Steps, Traditions and Concepts"?

Hope this helps.

David

Hot Rod and David a HUGE Thank You for sharing your ES&H!

When I agreed to do this I thought it would not be a problem to find information on the concepts.   You guys are a lifesaver!

Yes I have Paths to Recovery but it has developed legs and somehow I have misplaced it in my home.   Thank you both for pointing me in the right direction.

In gratitude,

Tommye
