Sober AH has been bemoaning how much he hates AA, but he can't stop going because of how he thinks I'll treat him.  He resents that he feels like he has to go (because of me, of course).

I looked at him and said, "I don't give a &*%$ if you go.  Go because you get something out of it, or because you enjoy the people.  But don't go for me, because that isn't the right reason."

Guess what?  He's still going.

Good job !
You never know, he may hear just that one right thing that will keep him wanting to go for himself or meet just the right person whom has the sobriety and serenity that he wants. He does have to want it for himself, I think he knows that but A's are a bit stubborn so he may continue to pretend to go for you for a while till he is ready to admit he is going because he wants it.
