A little update....

Well the past few days have been interesting to say the least.  The man that was released on Wednesday was not the man that went in their a month ago.

I'm in shock.  Completely.  He's sweet, kind and giving.  He's not starting arguements and he's asking to talk to me about things.   He's been to an AA meeting.   (only 1 but that's better than none).   He's telling me he has no desire to drink and at this point he doesn't have any temptation to do so.  We've had a couple of rough spots this weekend but he handled them completely rationally.  (I'm so not used to this... LOL)  We did have an issue last night when the topic of the night he got locked up was brought up.  He made a comment that *I* was the reason he got arrested.  I tried to hold it in but I blurted out "we never would have had the fight if you hadn't been drinking"....   he shut down, I walked away.  Then he actually came in and apologized for being insensitive....  WOW

So.... I am continuing to take one day at a time.  I know that things could change at any moment and I'm ready if/when they do.  I'm also continuing to work on me.

That is such a great start.

It is one day at a time and calm and breathing...

Good for you. Enjoy this precious time when he is showing some caring. We get so happy when they are a bit more themselves. But we must work on us as the disease is till there. It's so vital to accept the whole person, not just the one who is easier to get along with.

sending hugs,deb

Kuddo`s for working the program. Actually both of you are working it. Great going!
The hard part lies when one person may stop working it and the other person
needs to "remember" to keep on" keeping on working their program for themslves,
even if the other party isn`t working theirs at a particular time.

Wishing you the best!

Glad to hear that things are going well so far! I had been thinking about you these past few days and hoping that all was well. Sounds like you are doing a great job of focusing on you and letting him get himself sorted out.

*hugs*

I think you did just fine considering the circumstances.

For me meetings and working with a sponsor kept me strong in light of difficult conversations.  I was able to learn how to detach from their stuff and not react or respond to statements.   Without the guidance of a sponsor and wisdom of the rooms in alanon, I still think I would still JADE, justify, argue, defend and explain.
