Im new here

Hello all, I am very thankful to have found this place.  I just started attending Al-anon.  I am really surprised at how much I actually like it.  I never really wanted to open up to someone in person.  I have always wanted to act like I have no problems.  Well that is a joke because I have a lot lol.  I haven't started the steps yet but I am eager to.  The thing that I am struggling with is the *worrying what others think of me*  It drives me crazy!  I wish I could be confident in who I am.  Will the steps help me with this?  I think I am going to ask someone to sponsor me soon.  Thanks for listening!

Hi Daisy, and welcome.... In answer to your question - YES..... the steps, and Al-Anon in general, will help you address the self esteem issues you are currently struggling with....  One word of awareness - if you are an absolute newbie, you may want to absorb more of the program for awhile before starting the steps - it is quite a process, and one that may be better done when you have a few months of recovery under your belt.....  Attending meetings is a great place to begin your recovery, and you can supplement that by posting on this board, and/or attending the online meetings on here as well.....  Reading some of the great literature on the subject is another valuable tool....

Take care

Tom

i and welcome,

I too felt at home in al anon straight away i loved my meeting and the support of others in my postion.  i can not tell you how muc my self esteem and confidence hs grown thanks to this programme.  I got a sponsor quite quickly someone who seemed to uderstand al anon and be living her life by its principles.  I took a while to build this relationship and to get a grsp of al anon and then started the steps.  so glad you are here keep coming back

hugs tracy x

Daisy,

Hello and welcome!  I am so glad you are here and are attending face to face meetings.  The program has changed my life.  I am so grateful that I had the courage to pick a sponsor and work the steps.  It is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I would encourage you as Tom did to stick around, listen to others share and absorb the program.  I was able to pick my sponsor by listening to how she used the program and the tools of Alanon in her everyday life.  It was so clear meeting after meeting that she was the one.

Good luck to you.  Thanks for coming around.  I am thrilled to have had the chance to introduce myself.

Best,

Tommye

Hey and welcome here! I have been attending alanon on a regular basis since May. I am looking and listening for a sponsor. I know she is out there...Its great that you are going and noticing how it helps you :) I too feel that I have to look good and I have problems when it comes to sharing because I feel I am all over the board with stuff in my head. But I share so I can work on responding better and being better to myself. Keep coming! It works when we work it and we're worth it!
