Hello,

I am new to MIP but I have been in Alanon for 3 years. I am married to a recovering alcoholic and he completed rehab 3 years ago and has not had a drop of alcohol since then, but he has smoked pot, stole my medication (adderall), and bought pills (benzos). I have found this to become stressful although it's not often he has these slips but they are becoming more frequent. RIght now I am not focusing on him I am taking care of me. I don't worry as much as I did before (like when he was drinking so much). I have learned that no matter what I do it will not change HIS choices so therefore I try to make the best choices for ME. Although I still have my "slips" like yelling or getting angry but they are becoming less frequent and I am in a much happier place than I was 3 years ago. I am so glad I found this website and the ES&H it brings me to know that I am not alone on this jouney.

Hi MDK

Welcome to MIP I am so glad that you are attending Alanon and have now found our wonderful addition to face to face meetings.  Looking forward to getting to know you and sharing the journey.

MIP is a very powerful tool that I use everyday to keep me connected to alanon before or after my meetings.  I can come here in the early AM or late at night read , post and grow

Thanks for becoming part of the family.

Welcome to MIP, and kudos to you for focussing on you, through all this stuff...

There is an old adage - "addiction is addiction is addiction", so whether your H is drinking, or smoking pot, taking adderal, or benzo - it is all one and the same...

I would simply encourage you along your path of recovery - this is a great place, and you sound well on your way in your journey...

Take care

Tom

Aloha MDK...Welcome to the board and Mahalo (Thanks) for sharing your ESH with us about how it works for you.  Its a stunning part of addiction and the character of an alcoholic and or addict that "I just have to take something...to alter my mind and moods.  I don't know who I am when I'm without chemicals and don't know if I'll be able to stand myself being completely chemical free."   I had a LOT of help getting chemical free and staying that way before Al-Anon, during Al-Anon and after I was chemical free for 9 years in Al-Anon.  I now have dual membership on a 24/7 basis.  I thank my HP for HP's intervention in my life as I have been led to in program.   Keep coming back and congradulations on the 3 years of recovery.   ((((hugs)))) smile

(((MDK))) Welcome to the family! No, you are definitely not alone. I too still have occasional ¨slips¨ but my life is so much better since I've found this place.
